I'm now a Class D convert
So this is replacing my trusty NAD C320BEE which finally gave up the ghost (well, I gave up repairing it yet again), which I run in combination with Q-Acoustics 3030i speakers and a Marantz CD67Mk2 (old but still an amazing budget CDP). To say I'm blown away is an understatement, this thing is incredible for the price and I truly see class-d as the future:Build:Solid build quality with a lovely brushed aluminum front panel, interesting sloped design and a footprint about the same as a 7in single. Nice a weighty feel and good quality binding posts and gold plated RCAs, internal power supply is a big bonus so no more trying to hide huge power bricks.Display:Nice and simple 7 segment display, does the job and you can vary the brightness. Keep it simpleControls:The front control knob feels very nice and premium, just the right amount of resistance and no wobble / play. The included remote is functional, takes a little bit of getting used to and the receiver angle is poor but better than no remote at allSound:Oh boy, where do I start? In a word - amazing. Crystal clear highs without grain or sibilance, lovely warm mids and well controlled bass (punchy but not over-bearing). With the EQ off (E0) you need to crank the volume a bit to really get the best sound BUT (E2) is probably the best implementation of "loudness" I've ever heard, even at lower volumes this thing sounds so alive and rich. Soundstaging and seperation is excellent no matter what.Other stuff:The on-board DAC is really good, I'm using the coax out from my CDP and the DAC sounds far nicer than the CDPs in-built DAC. Not really palyed with the PCM filters as yet.Built in bluetooth is slightly disappointing as it only supports SBC (so no LDAC, APT etc) which is midly disappointing but I'm eyeing up a Wiim mini pro as a streaming source.Unit runs cool too, after afew hours of testing the unit was barely above room temp so really impressedAll in all fantastic value for money, has totally turned me off "traditional" boxy looking hi-fi components and I can't wait to see class-d amps hit the mainstream as they truly are a game changer

Audiophile quality
I'm a audiophile, and a studio producer. This has been the case for more years than I'm prepared to own up to. I own a fair bit of decent HiFi equipment as well as professional recording equipment - point being, I'm pretty apt at identifying high end sound. I own a number of SMSL products (DAC's and Amps) ... Because of the low current demand, I've been experimenting with powering up SMSL products using high quality pure sine wave lithium generators. But for this review, I will talk about performance via standard mains.Let's get the negative out the way i.e. the display. SMSL know how to make a decent OS on their Amps and DAC's, but not so here on the AL200. I can only guess the saving was reinvested on what's inside, because this is where all is forgiven.Clarity, depth, soundstage, and power was the first surprise. The next was overall resolution. I have certain test tracks from DSD recordings to CD, that my high end kit delves into with ease. Most class D systems can knock on the door, but not quite open it. This amp does, and in a very pleasant way. I'd say it can take on a good few class A/B amps costing considerably more.Using some studio created DSD recordings, I started to think spending more will only pay off if you spend a lot more, and you're an audiophile junky. You'll need to take care of your speaker choice. Sensitive BIG speakers costing many more times the cost of the AL200 didn't disappoint, but don't use it for party's.The EQ section is good with sensible choices in tone. For interest, I connected my high end turntable using a well known preamp. The result was rather impressive. That word "resolution" came to mind with many recordings. Overall, I didn't feel I was missing out. The very best results came from well recorded "pure" digital files i.e. DSD and high sample/bitrates recordings with a good few exceptions. If SMSL keep up this rate of development, I predict in a few years BIG chunky high end amps costing the price of a decent car will be totally unnecessary.
