My hive was well manufactured and all came together well. You’ll need a mallet for the body, and you’ll need small nails for the frames. All in I think it’s a fair price for a first foray into amateur beekeeping. I docked a star as it says it’s a complete kit but it doesn’t have a floor, a crown board, or a roof. You’ll need all of those, but they are the easiest to make yourself.

No bottom or lid for the bee hive. Nothing to say that these items have to be bought separately. Very disappointed as it was a gift.

The box was nicely waxed but the frames are all loose. They cut the pieces so loose the joints and foundation don't fit well.I assembled the hive frame and they all 8 out of 10 came apart in my hands even with no bee / honey on it.Wonder how it'd be if ladened with honey. I was ready to return when friend gave me a temp solution.Glue or nail i am not confident recommending it.

Overall this hive box will do the job. But there are a few things that weren't ideal. It did not come with any plexiglass for the window. So I had to improvise with a piece of plastic for the window otherwise the bees would just fly right out when you open the viewing window. The dovetails are not accurate I had to sand down many of the connecting pieces to get them to fit together and shim three other dovetails because there was an 1/8" gap. It is nice and tight though no glue or screws or nails needed. There's also too much space inside the box after adding the 10 frames. It could almost fit 11 frames. I plan to use a thin flat hanging board/frame that I received from a different shipment to slide up against the last frame to eliminate that extra space and to deter the bees from drawing out the comb too far. All of the box pieces have been dipped in wax so no need to paint.

Building the frames, the top bar was very tight. While putting together I had three crack at the ends. The bottom bar of the frame was to loose so it had to be glued and nailed just the stay together.The box itself looks nice once put together. The view door is a bad design. If you twist to open… the screw just comes out. Also the screws that were provided were cheap and could not be used as the Philips head was filled in.Putting the box together I noticed a crack in the wood. It is very cheap lightweight wood.

What is a nice piece of wood and well coated with wax. But there is a reason why these are fairly cheap. It was hard as hell to put together. In fact I didn’t finish it. It’s well worth the cost to just buy it already done. Plus, there’s no screen over the little door and they’re really needs to be a screen there. Otherwise you open it up just like they’re opening the top of the hive.

The box fit together tightly, however all the frames are to long for the box itself, and the frames were cut very loosely. I had to glue each frame together so they wouldn’t fall apart, and I will simply take a belt sander to the ends of each frame to make them fit. Other than the frames being poorly cut the box itself was cut properly and will be a great addition. I would buy it again. New EDIT: After sanding down the frames to make them fit, I tried to put some older frames from another hive in, and none of them would fit either. This box is too small for most frames to include the ones they send with the package. In hind sight I would give them 2 or maybe 3 stars, but would also recommend buying from another company until they get their dimensions squared away.
