Not recognised by computer

The description said this works with Win 8 and I have 8.1, so I think it's supposed to be compatible. I inserted the CD and installed, however, there seems to be no icon to click on to use it. I checked in Device Manager and it doesn't appear. So I don't really know what this means. Also, I just read the package itself and it states that it's for XP, Vista and Win 7. Wonder if they sent me the wrong one. Don't know what to do.
