British foreign policy encounters with the Middle East
Professor Nigel Ashton's "False Prophets: British leaders' fateful fascination with the Middle East from Suez to Syria" is a worthwhile read for anyone wishing to further their knowledge of British foreign policy and the importance of the Middle East to the occupants of No 10 Downing Street over the last seventy years. It is book that certainly lives up to its title, and more. I found chapters relating to the premierships of Anthony Eden, Harold Macmillan, Harold Wilson and Ted Heath fascinating in detailing their approach towards the region especially at a time British influence was waning. This is a solid piece of writing and one that is worthy of a wider audience.
