Great flipper -- especially for the price.
For the price, I wasn't expecting much so when I got my hands on the Kershaw Scrambler.... I was impressed. This is my first non-custom flipper. It was time to retire my previous beater knife(non-flipper) which I used for the past 14 years and did quite a bit of research until I decided to get the Kershaw Scrambler. Aesthetics, ergonomics, color and flipper action were the main reasons for choosing the Scrambler and when I finally got to fondle it in person, I was happy with my decision. The knife is solid and weighs in at 5.30 ounces which is heavier than my titanium frame flippers but definitely not an issue. The RJ Martin design is a huge plus. I have large hands and the handle fits comfortably in my grip. As a lefty, I have no issues handling or using the knife. Although there's an option to flip the pocket clip over, I prefer to keep it on the frame lock side for consistency purposes to match the rest of my flippers. This is my only flipper that doesn't ride on bearings and thought that may be an issue but the SpeedSafe does a great job deploying the blade. The flipper tab only requires about 2.3 lbs (according to my trigger scale) of downward pressure to activate the SpeedSafe assist. The only thing that feels different is upon closing the blade when you feel resistance of the tension spring.Once open, the blade is solidly locked in place with no noticeable movement in any direction. The framelock disengages smoothly and once the blade is in the closed position, it is nicely centered.Although the knife edge came sharp from the factory, I honed it to a razor edge on the Spyderco Sharpmaker and a strop. The blade is easy to hone and, thus far, has held the edge after slicing open a few boxes that came in the mail. This is my first experience with 8Cr13MoV steel so it's too new of a material to give an accurate assessment of it's edge retention.Overall, Kershaw and RJ Martin have done a great job with the Scrambler. The ergonomics, action and fit are spot on. The only issue could be the blade material which may be prone to rust if you don't maintain it.

Great knife with a few minor complaints
I've been using this as my primary EDC knife for a month now. My favorite thing about this knife is the assisted opening system. With no thumb studs you have to rely on the flipper. I was a little unsure about this choice until I used it. It opens fast and smooth and locks up solid every time. It's the best assisted opening mechanism I've used. I also carry the Kershaw Cryo in my EDC rotation and the opening mechanism on the Scrambler is better. I love the unique blade shape and the fit and finish is good. Yes, it's a little heavy but I knew the weight when I bought it and it's still an easy carry weight for me clipped onto my pants pocket. The blade came very sharp and has held an edge well. My first minor complaint is the blackwash finish. It's much darker than it appears online. There is almost no visible distinction between the pure black G10 scale and the blade steel. At a glance the whole thing just looks black. The same is true on the all steel side of the knife. Again there is almost no distinction between the pure black painted clip and the "blackwashed" steel. The blackwashed areas just look slightly worn but still definitely black whereas in the pictures it's more grey. It's still a very nice looking knife. This is just a preference thing for me. I would prefer it looked more like the pictures. My only real complaint is that like plenty of other folders, the hinge screw slowly backs out over time. Once or twice a week I will notice a very small amount of play in the blade and I have to tighten the hinge screw just a hair. It's good for a few days and then I have to tighten it again. Yes, I could put a bit of Loctite or similar product on that screw but I shouldn't have to. That's the main reason it's getting 4 stars from me and not 5 and a little because of the color. Still a very nice knife and a good value.

EDC and CCW? Look no further!
Why are you reading this? Go and buy this knife already!I bought this knife and a CRKT Jettison (silver). I liked the darker finishes and didn't mind paying the few etra dollars for it. I wish i never bought the CRKT because this knife makes it look like a Walmart kitchen knife. The knife comes with extra screws (which is really nice), and when i went to open it, it has a spring. Its slow but the size and weight are a really good balance. I have big hands and the knife feels really good, even to someone who held it with smaller hands. The weight is balanced. Unlike the CRKT i bought, the knife feels better in my pocket and holds easier to my pants and when i take it off and reput it back on without looking. The blade is nice, thick, and sharp. I joked around and tried to shave off my forearm off with the CRKT but it was nothing. The Kershaw is sharp and took it off in one swipe. This is a really good EDC and, if you need a Concealed Weapon that isn't too heavy or over 4 inches, this will be my option to carry in my pocket. This is a different style of this knife, which is exactly the same everything, but the color of the blade and such. Its your own choice but the blackwash seems so much nicer and better. And i wish to add, I sadly do not get paid to write reviews or get the product as free. I paid $26 for this knife and I don't regret it... Unlike the CRKT, I regret that :(
