Synology DiskStation DS124 1 Bay Desktop NAS

This was perfect for what I needed a simple nas to back up a few pc files and phone pictures, nothing too crazy, setup in minutes and after a little tinkering and getting used to it have found it to work great, wd nas drive installed and a low fan mode it’s pretty quiet, good price, perfect if you don’t need anything to massive for your back ups

Bought to replace an old/struggling WD NAS, primarily for use as a Plex server/film library storage. There were a lot of horror stories about drive compatability issues, but I put an 8TB WD Red hard drive in it without any issue and it's been fine. I've also run an additional 4TB drive into it via USB, which runs without issue. Set up was pretty straightforward, the unit is fast enough to handle audio conversion on the fly (the old NAS couldn't). I'd echo comments elsewhere that the Synology/WD combo is a little noisier than other NAS units, but to be honest it's not in the same room as the TV. It's nice and compact, so disappears once you find a home for it. All in all, very happy with it.

Wroks great for intended purposes, media server local docs etc. very easy to access via macos and windows linux no issues. picked up a seagate 6tb drive separately to keep the costs down as it would of been another 100 pounds for the same specs. If all the above is what you need it for then its a great buy, Plex/Emby 4K direct play works fine (No transcoding). The problems start when you try to do a bit more with it. with its limited 1GB Ram problems start when you have to many background services running. Fully supports docker containers, just dont try and do to much with it, i.e. VM etc or it will come to a crawl. Apart from that its a great buy, quiet and seems quick enough under normal load.

I chose a Seagate Ironwolf 2TB HDD, which was easy to install. Apparently you need to buy an adapter to fit 2.5" drives, but I'd choose a good quality 3.5" drive. Then again, full disclosure, I used to work for Seagate ;-) Connect to your LAN, plug it in, use the find utility to open the web client and follow the prompts. Takes about 10 minutes and you're up and running. As usual nowadays, the printed instructions supplied are minimal, so for more advanced features, search the web. There is a wide range of functions, including a backup utility, available to download and install on the device. I haven't run any tests, but I would describe the performance as good, subjectively. Good value compared with other products intended for home use.

Thanks to Microsoft my elderly pair of WD MYClouds are not recognised or supported as part of my home network. Although I can map them for use within my immediate home PC's I'm led to believe from what I've read that this is only a temporary solution and does not easily fit in with my current usage. I also felt that, given their age, it would be a good idea to back up their contents. My needs are very simple and are easily met by the DS124. By purchasing it without a ready installed drive and installing a WD Red Plus, also from Amazon, I saved a considerable amount of money. Installation and setup was very straightforward. It comes with a comprehensive array of apps, which I may come to utilise sometime in the future. The case is smaller than I expected. (I know dimensions are published in the advert but I am of an age where centimetres and millimetres are as good as meaningless) In use it is silent and unobtrusive sitting on as shelf in a cabinet under the TV and Router in the lounge. So far it works as intended and I am very pleased with it. It did take a very long time to transfer the contents of my WD MYClouds, but as these were very slow, I expected this.

I was looking for a network file backup solution and this works perfectly out the box. I didn't need two bays or RAID so this unit is ideal. Very easy to set up, low power consumption and easy to access files remotely.

Som ny i NAS-världen är det en del att sätta sig in i för att få en bra funktion/konfiguration… som tur är finns det mycket hjälp på youtube. Instegsmodell DS124 med lite mindre cpu och ram, hade kanske köpt en lite vassare modell om jag skulle köpt igen. Finns många synology-appar som är intressanta, bra utbud med gratisappar. Snapshot och backup appar tex. Har usbdisk som backup disk, roterar två stycken för högsta säkerhet. Synology känns som kvalitet och bra snabba svar på supporten.

Si estás buscando un NAS sencillo, pero solvente y eficiente el Synology DS124 es quizas la mejor opción que podemos encontrar hoy día en el mercado. El DS124 esta hecho de materiales de calidad, su diseñado tiene pinta que esta realizado para durar. Ademas a mi la caja me resulta moderna y bonita. Y el ventilador trasero lo tengo configurado al minimo de rendimiento (no hace falta mas ahora en casi pleno invierno) y no hace nada de ruido. La configuración de este NAS es bastante sencillo, y si no estas habituado a los NAS o no eres un experto en tecnología, en el sitio web de Synology encontraras multitud de ayuda. Una de las cosas que mas me preocupaba al principio antes de adquirirlo, es que la CPU fuera potente y la RAM fuera suficiente, ya que cuenta con tan solo 1GB de RAM. En algunos foros supuestos expertos te dirán que no es capaz o se quedara corto por ejemplo con Plex para transcodificar peliculas a 4K al televisor de tu hogar, pero nada mas lejos de la realidad. Lo hace de forma inmediata y sin despeinarse. Por supuesto realizar copias de seguridad, almacenar fotos o transmitir todo tipo de contenido multimedia montando tu propio servicio de streaming, este DS124 lo hace todo sin esfuerzo. Antes de adquirir nada, tenemos que asegurarnos que el disco duro que vamos a emplear en este NAS sea compatible. No todos los discos son compatibles, o funcionan igual de bien con este NAS. En la pagina web del fabricante podemos encontrar un listado de discos duros compatibles. En mi caso con un Seagate IronWolf de 12TB que figuraba en ese listado, no he tenido ningún problema y lo reconoció a la primera. El precio quizas a alguien le pueda parecer algo elevado, pero es que este Synology DS124 vale cada céntimo pagado, no solo por las características y la calidad que ofrece el producto, sino porque tenemos uno de los sistemas operativos para NAS mas pulidos que existen, y ofrece una gran cantidad de software variado y diferente de forma gratuita y sin suscripciones. En este ultimo aspecto (S.O. y software) supera a su competidor mas directo QNAP. En resumen, este Synology DS124 es una pequeña maravilla para cualquier hogar u oficina que necesite un NAS para almacenamiento de manera fiable y eficiente, ya sea para backup o como servidor multimedia. Combina un diseño elegante, con un buen rendimiento. Por mi parte es un dispositivo ¡totalmente recomendado!

Non credo ci sia bisogno di dire molto, chi conosce i prodotti Synology sa che é una garanzia!!!! Acquisto fatto per sostituire un decennale DS115j (ancora funzionante ma ormai lento, troppo lento) in paragone posso dire che ora ho una ottima auto da corsa anche se non di certo posso fare competizioni a confronto dei modelli più potenti ma comunque raggiunge il suo traguardo. Buona risposta in web o tramite cloud Perfetta risposta per video 4k o sviluppo delle grandi immagini su LAN Personalizzazione eccellente e tanta scelta di APP fantastiche e utili. Personalmente lo uso sopratutto per Cloud privato da iOS a synology per foto personali e documenti oltre ad download diretto di film o video da riprodurre sulla LAN e sui tv e dispositivi connessi (ps posso vederli anche via web lontano da casa) FANTASTICO!

Plastik jest tragicznej jakości. Nie polecam. Przejechałem ściereczką i tak wygląda. Po wyłączeniu zasilania zniknęły główne foldery z kopii zapasowej. Oddaje!
