Perfect little air compressor.
I got this compressor after reading all the reviews and youtube.com. It works great. Every review I read said that is was quite and it is. What I wanted to know is the pitch of the sound, and I was not able to find anywhere I might put a youtube up of this but, it is a direct drive to the pump and it sounds like a very loud refrigerator. It does fill fast and does not take long to recover when using my 1/2 impact. It's over kill but I did replace all my fittings with Milton V style. I don't know what kind was on there but they were a simple push in (no need to pull back collar) I did replace the fittings with Milton V style for better flow and there appears to be a plug on the side of that manifold for a third. I put thread tape on the fittings put the air filter on and oiled it up and let run for about 20min with the air drain open then let it cool completely. Checked for oil leaks and any thing else all looked good, close the air drain and turned it on worked great and shut off right a 135psi. It held that pressure for a long time (at least 4 hrs) I couldn't wait wanted to use it, It all works great. Airing up tires, Impacts, blow gun taps a little, roofing nailer, hardwood floor nailer, haven't yet but I think it would run a paint gun well. whatever you can throw at it, it says 100% but.....? Ya. It is the best quality built and would buy another over others hands down. It is heavy but that is fine for me, the carry handle well position for carrying. My only complaint is the instructions say to not to use a extension cord and if you do a 10g is preferred. but the cord the you plug in is 14g. To me that didn't make much sense. ( I understand long runs to up the cord but then to have a 14 at the end?) In my uses the cord has never got warm but maybe something to keep in mind. The box was well intact its a super heavy duty cardboard box with packing straps and a glossy outside finish, its the original box from Ingersoll Rand and well stabilized inside. It made it to Alaska, and came on FedEx. If your on the fence on this just buy it, you will like it I know I sure do, just wish I had more projects to use with.

Only but the best...
I am no stranger to IR compressors as I have purchase many over the years used for large production facility applications. My experience using them and their reputation in the field solidifies in my mind that they are at the top of their game, the best of the best. When it came time to replace my portable compressor, I found this twin stack unit (model P1IU-A9), and decided to give it a try. Box arrived on promised date (thanks Amazon) but with a few war wounds, which translated into a few scratches on the tanks; not enough to return the unit. Was pleasantly surprised at the quality of all the hardware. Everything seems to be extra heavy duty which of course translates into weight. She is quite heavy but not to the point that it is not portable. I will probably dedicate a dolly or cart to facilitate rolling it around. It came with an air filter that looks more like it was designed for dessert conditions (very well designed). Stainless steel braded line leading from compressor to tank (not visible in pictures), quality brass fittings and copper lines. All plumbing seemed to be properly assembled. Nice fit and finish. When I fired it up, I was pleasantly surprised. It seemed to be half as loud as my previous (Campbell and Hausfeld) compressor. I also noticed it had low vibration. Previous compressor vibrated quite violently. Tank fills quickly and consistently and comes with a brass ball-valve drain. Negatives: A little upset about the paint on the tanks getting scratched from shipping, but I got over it. Weight - maybe too heavy for someone with a bad back (approx. 80 lbs.) Manifold assembly (gauges, regulator, connections) was not centered with cut-outs in front panel. Easy to adjust. Gauges, as many have said, are poor. They are hard to read (small print). I had to get down on my hands and knees to read the pressure. On the bright side, at least they would be very easy to change out if I decided to do so in the future. All in all, very pleased with the purchase. I am a value hound and this is one of the best values I have run across in a long time. Built like a tank. Update: Owned a little more than one year now. Completed several large projects (2,000 SF of solid wood flooring, built-in bookshelves, major trimwork, etc...). Unit still works like it did on day one. I love this compressor. I do caution everyone that it is a little heavy. Maybe I'm getting old (or need to work out more). This thing is built like tools used to be built. Will last a life-time.

Great small compressor - built a shed with it.
I purchased this to replace a Craftsman compressor that I unfortunately used outside during the winter (around 36 degrees). The Craftsman stopped working so I needed another compressor. This one is great for a small compressor. I used it to build a 12x18 shed in the spring of 2013. I mainly used the Freeman framing nailer (PFR2190), the Freeman coil siding nailer (PCN65), and the Freeman coil roofing nailer (PCN45). I would get about half a dozen nails out of the framing nailer before the motor kicked on. I didn't nail fast (it was just me building the shed) so the compressor handled it fine. I would get more nails out of the coil nailers of course - they don't use as much air. It fills up in just a few minutes to around 110 psi. I usually set the output at 95 psi for the nailers and they work great. The fit and finish of the compressor is great. I have no problems with it. The quick connectors are nice brass, the hose between the tanks is braided steel, the frame is heavy duty and painted nicely, even the plastic output knob is fine. The only issue I had was that the pressure gauges were not usable when the unit was first delivered. The needles would have hit the top of the gauge housing had I used it (not centered I guess). I contacted IR and they put me in contact with the nearest IR dealer. He send two new gauges (I'm pretty sure he asked if I could install them myself - which I had no problem with). The gauges arrived, I removed the front face, replaced the gauges, reinstalled the front face and it worked great. The negatives are that it is loud (all small compressors are). And it vibrates (all small compressors do). But not more than the Craftsman or other small compressors. I have used it a handful of times since building the shed in the last 3 years. No issues. I plug it into 15-amp outlets with no problems. I definitely recommend this compressor.

Quality Product Needs Changes
Right out of the box you can feel the quality. This compressor is not for lugging around all day long. Unlike other posts, gauges came intact, and ups did a great job on the shipping. Was not to thrilled about the oil dipstick,It was difficult to screw in without cross threading, and is difficult to read oil level. A sight glass would have been a welcome addition. I have used this compressor about a dozen times for simple shop tasks, inflating, cleaning and it handles my 1/2" impact for tire removal. Pump up time is minimal, about a minute and a half, and recovery time is 20 to 30 seconds. I was surprised at how quiet this compressor is. This is my first oil filled compressor. I did alot of research between brands and prices and for the money I would definately recommend it.

100% Continuous Duty
IR always has quality products... After performing the break in procedure, the compressor filled the air tanks in approximately 45 sec-1min... Very Fast! Additionally, DO NOT BE FOOLED, THIS IS A 100% CONTINUOUS DUTY COMPRESSOR!!!!! This means no worries about running it more than 30 min every hour... I am not running the compressor at 100% CD; however, it's nice to know you can and also, I suspect, is suggestive of long term durability... I have had it for 3 days and seems to be about 10 dB less then my fathers old hot dog craftsman but with much better performance. On the portability end, this unit *IS* portable but be aware that you will need to lift 70 lbs(slight over estimate) to be able to move it (no wheels)... Certainly one can make a small dolly for it but not necessary for me (as I am a strapping lad :)... One thing unexpected: compressor max temp (ambient) to perform operationally according to IR is 100 degrees F (low is around 45 degrees??? (not a concern for me)) Most of the country will not have an issue with this; however, I live in Arizona, so I will have to be conscientious of the placement regarding the high temp... Additionally, the compressor has a thermal protect circuit, this should in the event of a leaking hose (and unattended inadvertent CD use) should shut down the unit and save you from premature failure.... The following is my report card for this unit: Performance (cfm, reservoir size, recharge time): A- (some better (but not many) at this price point) Longevity (oiled, cast iron sleeve, thermal protect, continuous duty): A+++ Portability (70 lbs, no wheels, slightly awkward carrying with handle): B- Operating Parameters (100F-?45? F): B+ Features (double hose bib, pressure regulator, cfm, 110V 15A capable): A Maintenance (must change oil, dipstick is slightly difficult to see, replacement of air cleaner, can not change oils (stay with IR synthetic)): B Loudness (considerable est 85 dB, not deafening but roars like a juvenile lion): B Overall: A Would recommend... (have moderately strong arms, shoulders, and back)

This is it!
I use my compressor just about every day and am very picky. When my old compressor started to go, I started looking. I saw many other models that the guys I worked with used, (too loud, too large, too slow, various problems). I looked at all of the box stores, local hardware/tool stores and on-line,(the only "real" air tool store in our area went out of business, and my old compressor company no longer exists), still nothing good, untill I found this compressor! Very glad that I waited to find the "just right" one. Received the compressor, put oil in, fired it up, works great! At this point I have not used any air tools except nail guns, but with the fast recycle time and the specs, it should work great. (I will update) Pros: About as quiet as compressors get, low vibration, charges up fast. Good price. It cycles back on at high pressure so I never have those last few nails not set right. Has 1/4 turn ball valve tank drain. Easy access air filter. Runs on 15 amp circuit. 100% duty rating! Cons: Very heavy, (77lbs) and has a fairly big footprint. (But so nice overall that it still deserves 5 stars).

Great buy.
This compressor is quite good in my opinion. After looking at everything on Amazon, reading Amazon reviews and looking on the internet, I came to the conclusion that this is a good compressor with good customer service, and so far I agree. It puts out quite a bit of air compared to a cheap pancake compressor and runs many tools. An extra storage tank would make if really great and I generally only need more air when using a blow nozzle for long periods. If I turn down the regulator to 50 psi it can provide constant pressure and flow. One of my highest requirements was an oil-lubed compressor for durability and low maintenance costs since oil-less compressors have plastic piston rings and require constant rebuilding. Oil-less are also cheaper and lighter but cheaply made so if you want lightweight don't complain about durability. If you need to paint spray, buy a dryer and oil separator. Generally, the smaller and lighter the compressor, the more constantly it will have to run and the less output it will have so, size does matter here. For about three times the money of a pancake compressor I got 100 times the compressor. The quality was very good and I didn't experience any problems with the packaging or shipping through Amazon and my Ingersoll Rand compressor has a very good finish quality, other than the tan color. As far as other reviewers complaining about welds, a little compressor like this is very unlikely to be affected by a pin hole and the quality on the one he received could be improved, however, it was not a critical flaw and mine had no such insignificant defects at all. I was looking at the Makita big bores but there were quite a few negative reviews especially about poor customer service. Makita 5200: 6.9 CFM @ 90 psi @ 50% Duty Cycle. Ingersoll Rand: 4.3 CFM at 90 psi @ 100% Duty Cycle. The Ingersoll Rand has been putting out plenty of air for 3 inch framing nails, finish nails, decent air blowing, tank and tire filling, etc so far. Update: 5/28/2017 & 10-25-2017 I still like the compressor and the only issues I've had is with leaky hose couplers with hoses attached which causes the compressor to have to recharge often when sitting idle. When I unplug hoses the compressor does not leak.

work good. had it several years. some observations
Works great. I've had this several years now. It does the job well. I'll just share a few observations from several years of use. Mine is stored in an open car port in Florida. The air filter has rather small intake holes on the back side to draw in air. Every year some insects build nests in these holes and the compressor won't build air till I clean these holes out. It's probably mud wasps and it's easy to clean up and get going again with a small screw driver. It is very heavy and I think future designs should be made to move with a dolly easier. Currently if you move it with a dolly it is not well balanced for that. The heavy side has the more fragile parts. The safest way is to put the tanks against the dolly, but it falls off if not strapped down. It has handled being out in the weather very well with occasional indirect rain when unplugged. In this environment the air switch only stuck once.
