SWAT 4 (PC CD)

You can get a demo of this game off sierra's website.You get a huge amount of satisfaction, playing this game. Using authentic SWAT tactics, you have to make your way through the environemt, arresting (or neutralising) suspects, securing and rescuing hostages and civillians and confiscating weapons. As the ssquad leader you have to decide how to handle the situation you come across. Before entering a room, you mirror under the door to see if any enemies are in sight. If there are, you can order your men to throw in a flash grenade, then charge into the room whilst the suspect staggers around blinded. You naturally are aiming to arrest suspect rather than kill or wound them, so you have to try and get them to comply by shouting at them (I never get tired of hearing my team shout "DROP THE GUN, GET DOWN ON YOUR KNEES!" at terrified enemies) and if possible using pepper spray or tasers to force them to submit. The clever controls and command menue mean you have no problem responding to situations.Despite being a few years old now them game still has good graphics, but runs smoothly (on low settings) even on a modest system.

I used to play Swat 3 but unfortunately my disk became faulty, so i bought this and the game is amazing, so much fun and a great improvement from Swat 3, must buy for Swat fans!

It's amazing

Each edition of the SWAT series of games has been an improvement upon the last and this is no exception. Each map is well constructed and thought out and provides a variety of challenges. The animations were quite good at the time but the only groan that anyone can have is that some of the ragdoll poses are poor.The original scenarios are however slightly limited in number but this does not detract from the campaign element of the game. SWAT 4 is set more firmly in realism than most of it's competitors, there is a realistic inventory size which means the ammunition and equipment you can take into any scenario with you is limited. Unlike games like STALKER you can't carry 60 kilos around on your back and I have run out of certain types of tactical aids on occasions when I could have done with them!!This is a gritty, atmospheric game with good audio and most importantly good AI. An example would be where suspects wouldn't be overly eager to shoot at you if their priority is to flush the drugs they are carrying down the nearest toilet, others will resist to the death, others will give up almost as soon as they see five heavily-armed SWAT members show up on the scene and then there are the ones who need "persuasion" to put down their weapons.I don't buy a massive amount of games but this is one I have kept and played repeatedly. A solid tactical shooter.

Ok so it isn't the best game ever created but for £2.47 it's amazing value. The graphics are good, the gameplay is great and it's just really fun. You don't have to shoot and kill, you can use non-lethal weapons like pepper spray, tasers and bean bag shotguns. Often resolving a situation without killing anyone is actually more fun than doing it with guns. It's funny because you can flashbang a room then taser your opponents whilst they're blinded. Or you can go in there guns blazing, whatever takes your fancy!This also counters one of the biggest problems with PC games, system inadequacy. Too often you find after a couple of years your PC is technically obselete, but there's no danger of that happening with this game because the system requirements are relatively low.So all in all, a great game at a great price.
