Excellent... with a small catch
I normally don't like to write reviews so soon after receiving a product, but I think this deserves an exception. There is a problem with this light, however, it is very easy to fix.The Symptoms:- turbo mode steps down to a lower mode almost immediately- possible flashing while charging- battery indicator slowly fades bright then dimThe Solution:Tighten the connection between the head of the light and the battery tube. EVEN IF YOU THINK IT IS TIGHT, twist it very hard and try again. The head of the light needs to be abnormally tight in order for it to function.Other than this problem, I enjoy the flashlight very much:- It is surprisingly compact for the output you receive.- there is good knurling so it stays in your hand well- the button is large enough that it can be operated while wearing thick gloves (although a little challenging)NOTE: This review was written the same day this product was delivered. I will update the review in the future should it be necessary.

High intensity high quality LED flashlight
The ThruNite TC20 3800 Lumen, USB rechargeable flashlight is based around the new CREE XHP70 (Extra-High-Power) LED, and is available in daylight white and neutral white. I rarely care enough to review any particular product, unless I made a big mistake, or really think the product is so outstanding that I'd recommend it to friends. The ThruNite TC20 is one of those flashlights that falls into this latter category. I've been following LED technology for many years, and when I see large leaps forward in LED technology I just have to see it work for myself. Typically the newness factor wears off in a few weeks, and in the case of flashlights, it becomes just another of the many lights in my growing collection. The ThruNite TC20 is one of those exceptions where I find myself going back to grab it off the shelf almost every time I need a flashlight. You can look up the specs yourself so I'll just expound upon why it works so well for me. Obviously it's a powerhouse on Turbo mode putting out 3800 lumens, albeit only for a couple of minutes before it drops down to High, which is still an exceptional 1800 lumens, and good for over two hours at that power due to its large capacity 5000mAh 26650 battery. Honestly I use it on medium and low 90% of the time, but it's nice to know the power is there when you really need to light up the night. It also fits more comfortably in my hands due to the larger girth needed to house the single 26650 lithium ion cell. Lastly, I strongly prefer a good single cell battery flashlight over multi-cell batteries.. I smile warmly when I compare this to the good old Eveready 2D flashlights I grew up with not very long ago.

The CREE XPH70 is a wonderful LED. Having it in a small flashlight the size of the TC20 is amazing. Within this light is a rechargeable 26650 5000mAh battery that can be charged with the battery in the flashlight via micro-USB. For myself I have several 26650 batteries and charger, as I use 26650 batteries in other flashlights in my collection. Because the TC20 is small-ish, the reflector isn't deep, the TC20 is more flood-ish. The TC20 by no means is a "thrower'. there is a center-spot, but generally the TC20 acts more of a flood light. The TC20 is amazingly bright. If you're unfamiliar with this type of flashlight you will be amazed. Build quality is superb, which is just what I expect from thruNight.4 stars because the power switch is difficult to feel in the dark.Highly recommended.

high brightness/size ratiio
Like: bright, short, USB charging, floody, simple UI, spare o-rings and usb port cover, lanyard, looks. It draws 1.18A at 4.84V according to my usb meter, while it's off and charging. This is my second 26650 light. The battery in my first light is 26mm x 65mm, as expected. The battery in this one is 26mm x 70mm.Fortunately the batteries are still interchangeable, thanks to big springs in the battery compartments.

First impression is I like this light.
First impression is I like this light. Very compact and very bright. Not quite the size of what most people would consider an everyday carry light but I wouldn't hesitate putting in my pocket. It's mostly a floody light but still has good throw from the 3800 lumens. Build feels solid and the button action has a very positive feel to it. I noticed that for long term storage the tail cap would need to be taken off completely to prevent standby drain however the body only needs to be loosened from the head with maybe a 5 degree twist. It's such a slight turn that it could lead to false signs of malfunction (like I experienced). Not a big deal just make sure it's tightened properly. I would consider the Cool White to be somewhere in between Cool and Natural but that's subjective.

Wow what a monster
This thing is amazing.... Perfect beam pattern with lots of throw and lots of flood with no dead or dark spots in between... one thing I find in most of these high power lights is when you get to the higher Lumen settings there doesn't seem to be as much difference in between them as there is at the lower end. Case in point this one on high says 1800 and turbo is supposed to be 3800 and there is no way there is that much difference between the two as it is not that noticeable switching from high to Turbo. It is noticeable but does not seem like 2000 lumens worth at all. That being said when it's on 1800 lumens that is an awful lot of light in a excellent beam pattern. I also like that this thing has a lot of run time for the Lumen output... also nice that it comes with a good quality battery and charger as I don't know that the light would be worth $90 without the battery and charger.

Brilliant solid torch, with impressive power.
The media could not be loaded. Brilliant torch. For the price, my expectations were high for this. The design.Nice black aluminum outer shell. The bottom half has a type of grip on allowing you to hold tightly. There is an additional lanyard provided for you to attach to your wrist. The weight of the torch is less than I expected. I thought this would be very heavy but it's ok, it's not light but it's not the heaviest either. There is also an additional pouch/holster which attaches to your belt, to keep your torch in.The torch is waterproof, this is confirmed too!Using. There are six different types light modes you can use.• Turbo, 3800 lumens, 130 minutes. After a few minutes, the torch will gradually drop in lumens to a certain amount, still high, to prevent the torch overheating.• High, 1800 lumens, 145 minutes.• Medium, 320 lumens, 10.2 hours.• Low, 38 lumens, 46 hours.• Firefly, 0.5 lumens, 37 days, glows like a candle.• Strobe, 2280 lumens, 180 minutes. This flashes on and off very fast, which would disorientate the person looking at the torch.Very easy to use. The torch itself can be charged via a USB wire provided, as opposed to charging the batteries separately. The on/off/mode button is on the side near the top. This only needs a gentle tap and it's on. (I accidentally got myself.. it wasn't pretty!)- To prevent yourself from accidentally catching yourself, when you're not using, unscrew the cap a little so the battery is not connected.I think personally, this should be a switch button and not a slight tap, maybe also a warning that this could happen. I was left with marks in my sight for 15 minutes and a headache for a good while after. My opinion. The torch works famously, as it should. It goes extremely bright. All the different modes are very useful depending on what you're using the torch for. I very much like the strobe mode for incase something happens when walking my dogs.It fits and feels nice in my hand, I only have small hands, so I was quite happy with this, I could manage the weight, I also have weak wrists and worried about the weight but its fine and manageable.I would definitely recommend this. It works exactly as stated. The battery life is fantastic. It does need a good, long charge to begin with. There is a 2 year warranty with the torch and a limited lifetime maintenance. This means, after your 2 year warranty is up, if it needs a repair, they will do the maintenance but only charge you for the part. This is brilliant I think.Excellent quality, waterproof, durable, I couldn't recommend it anymore.Brilliant solid torch, with impressive power.

Turns night into day.
Update January 2021: My torch's battery has suffered a significant reduction in usability. I can only use it on high power for about twenty minutes before output is reduced and the red "low power" light illuminates, a big reduction from the hours and hours (or indeed days and even weeks) of use i got from it when new.FINAL EDIT: The battery got me through nearly three weeks of daily quite intensive use before power started to diminish on high mode. Still perfectly bright on low and medium modes. Absolutely brilliant.EDITED TO ADD: I've been using it daily for the week or two since I received it and I STILL haven't had to charge it again, no loss of performance whatsoever. I am astonished.I bought this having been disappointed by recent quality control and usable battery life issues with my previous favourite torch manufacturer. I was really hesitant to pay so much for a torch and on first use I really thought I'd been duped, but then I realised I hadn't cycled through the modes and was using it on the dimmest setting. I cycled up to bright and BAM! Night time dog walking becomes day time dog walking! It is really very very bright across a very large area, so bright that I could no longer tell if a car was approaching from behind like I used to be able to as this torch is brighter than their headlamps. The beam distance isn't enormous but still illuminates as much in front of me as I'll ever require of it. I have only used it for one 45 minute walk so far, although it wasn't on constantly throughout, however it remained consistently bright from start to finish and I certainly don't feel I need to re charge it for a long time yet - much better than the ten minutes of usable light from my old torch. The natural white colour is honestly a bit sickly green on the dimmer settings but on high and turbo modes it's much more pleasant. My only gripe so far is that the switch is difficult to locate in the dark and especially with cold wet hands - I much prefer an end switch, but I bought this knowing fully well what to expect as far as that's concerned. Still, it would be more ergonomic if it was just a little more obtrusive.

Portable Sun!
TL;DR at the bottom for those who want to save a few minutes. This is a powerful flood torch for its size. I bought the Neutral White version, arrived next day in a nice cardboard box slightly larger than the light itself, with a good quality USB cable, lanyard, holster, spare o-rings and an instruction manual buried underneath the foam surrounding the flashlight. The flashlight itself ships with a protective plastic film on the battery terminal inside to prevent accidental activation during transport. The light feels well made and has some weight to it, but it is still very compact overall. The diamond knurling provides a good grip, and the flat sides of the switch section prevents the light from rolling around on a flat surface. The glass has an anti reflective coating on both sides, and looks almost invisible in front of the orange-peel reflector.Charging the light up is quite fast considering the size of the battery. The light does indeed charge at just under 2 amps if you have a power source capable of supplying the higher current demand. I tested the charging speed with a wall plug and power bank, both rated for 2.4 amps max draw, and in both cases the light went from empty (red flashing led in the power button) to full (blue light) in about 2 and a half hours. The user interface is quite intuitive and easy to understand. Switching the light on and off is done with a short press of the switch, and by default it will start in the last mode used in the Low-Medium-High cycle. A long press whilst off will switch the light on in Firefly mode, whilst a long press when on will cycle through the brightness levels. Turbo is accessed by a double click from either on or off, and strobe is accessed by double clicking from Turbo. I don't like this personally- I think it would have been better to make strobe accessible by a triple click to differentiate it completely from turbo. Within the switch is a power indicator in the centre- blue when on (except in Firefly mode), red when low and flashing red when the light needs to be recharged. The beam- WOW. Whilst Firefly, Low and Medium are usually enough for most tasks, High and Turbo really show the power of this light. I believe Thrunite's lumen output measurements to be fairly accurate, however I think the throw is closer to the 200-250m range rather than the advertised 320 metres. This light is very floody- it can easily light up a small field or a park in High and Turbo. Turbo mode steps down after 3 minutes to |High to prevent the light from overheating- whilst it can get quite warm, it never reaches a temperature that would be considered unsafe to hold, but you do notice the fairly rapid temperature buildup around the switch portion after about 30 seconds. My only complaints about the beam are that it appears to have a slight greenish tint in lower output settings, and a blue-ish shift towards the outer edge in higher modes when used at closer range indoors. However, outdoors at night (which is what this light is well suited for anyway) these issues are insignificant and barely noticeableRuntimes are fairly accurate, however it is worth noting that the 130 minute runtime stated for Turbo appears to include the stepdown and subsequent runtime in High. I think it would have been more logical to state the runtime as 3+127 minutes instead. Regardless, for most nights you won't need to worry at all about the battery running low- Medium will get you more than 10 hours of use.The holster for the light holds it in a head-up orientation only (which is fine) but the switch falls very close to the top of the Velcro portion, making it quite easy to accidentally turn on the light if slight pressure is applied near the switch. There is no electronic lockout function- the head can be unscrewed a quarter-turn to physically lockout the light, but unscrewing the tail has no effect because the threads are not anodised on that end. One small thing to note is that if the head is unscrewed whilst the light is on, when screwed back in fully it will automatically switch on to the last used setting.Pros:+ Excellent build quality and compact size for a 26650 torch+ Flood beam that lights up a large area very well+ Neutral white tint provides more accurate colours compared to cool white (in my opinion)+ Fast charging if you have a power source capable of delivering enough power+ Great battery life for general usage.Cons- Slight greenish tint on lower settings- No electronic lockoutPotential improvements for a future updated model- Triple click for strobe instead of double click twice- Battery check function- Mode to use the indicator light as a locator, perhaps flashing once every few seconds- Perhaps make the indicator light pulse when the light begins stepping down due to heatOverall, this is an excellent light. If the cost is a little high for you, then you may want to consider the Wowtac A5, which is very similar (however the Thrunite is definitely better built in comparison).

Spectacular, an i have now found a way to lock the torch out :)
This gives an incredible bright light and the strobe effect would make it almost impossible for a would-be attacker to approach with any confidence. Plus it would be lighting up the surroundings which would gain a lot of attention. Great self defence. The torch gets very hot, very quickly, which brings me onto the omission of a lock out. The side button is very easy to press and it does not take much to turn it on by accident. If it happens to make it onto turbo mode while in your pocket or bag, a) the battery would quickly deplete, but more worryingly b) could burn your leg or set fire to bag contents. The holster actually makes it worse as the stretchy sides actually sit ON the button, making it even more likely to be knocked on. Safety tip: TAKE THE BATTERY OUT UNLESS YOU’RE HOLDING THE THING IN YOUR HAND.Great torch, but badly misses this simple feature.UPDATE: You can actually "lock off" the torch by twisting the head of the torch very slightly. It seems to remain off even with vigorous shaking. Make sure you unscrew the threads near the face of the torch as unscrewing the threads near the tail does not have the same effect.I'm not sure if this is designed into the product or not, but I am now happy to award 5 stars instead of my original 4 stars.

Can be used as a bike light
I like it because it is small and powerful and the steps for the intensity of the light are very convenient for what you may need a lighter - close distance or further away. I have searched for a long time before I was able to decide on this one, read reviews and watched numerous videos. I cannot comment on how long it lasts or how tough it is if dropped. With a cheap bicycle handlebar mount this Thrunite can be used as a bike light, which is amazing. I wrapped some electrical tape on the torch to make sure it does not slip. It lights the path ahead at a wide angle to help when turning corners or just have confidence when riding at night, as well as very bright in the centre. I have used it at as bike light in addition to a bike torch specifically made for bikes only because the specialised bike torch had a narrow angle, I did not know how long the battery would last on the Thrunite and I used a lower setting on the Thrunite. It was a long bike ride and I did not wish to end up in the dark.I could not find Thrunite batteries to buy on Amazon or a quick google search. If I am going for a longer bike ride or camping having a spare battery or two would give me peace of mind and I could use the Thrunite at the high setting (not turbo). However, I have found EBL 3.7V 5000mAh rechargeable batteries at 19 pounds for two on Amazon. They are shorter than the original battery, however due to the large spring of the torch they fit well. I cannot comment on how good the EBL batteries are more than the fact they work and the light turns on.I was tempted to buy a larger torch for the larger batteries, to use the torch for longer on a charge. However, why carrying a larger torch when you do not need more light than this Thrunite produces and you can have a spare battery or batteries in your pocket or bag when out in the dark for longer? Having read and watched so many reviews, it is surprising not more people recommend buying a hand torch for a bike, as it can be used for both so easily. I will mention again that at fast speed on the bike I feel very comfortable and have no worries I may miss a pothole, rock etc. I do not need more light. So small and much cheaper than better quality bike torches. I use my hand to cover part of the torch/beam when other people walk or ride their bikes toward me, as it blinds them.
