Great kit to change a recessed light to a pendant light. The cans in the house I installed this product are 6" in diameter. Lukily, the can had three sheet metal screws in it that lined up perfectly with the three on this product. The cans are not very deep, so I needed to either cut or find a shorter threaded tube. The one that came with this product is 3.75". I found it to be a bit too long for the application I was working on. So, I bought a selection of these from a local home improvement store. The 2" long threaded tube was perfect. I am not sure why others struggled with the installtion of this product. It does not require an enginieering degree, only common sense and experience with a few tools. The lit is quite stout and I would have no issue hanging heavy light fixture from this. All in all, it was easy peasy.

The price tag is I guess fair. But to be honest I don't understand why it's so expensive. The product works great. It's been put together very thoughtfully to make your life easy. Here's the problem. If you have one of the round existing recessed boxes for lights, you're perfectly fine. But try doing this in a square box. It's almost impossible. The dimensions don't work even for a 6-in box and you can't reach one of the other ends. You have to jerry rig this which will make your light off center. I tried to reach out to the company if get to a solution but they were closed by the time I got there

This is a solid, well built kit. Since you're building it into a recessed can, getting the three screws in can be a bit tricky. All the parts of this kit are great. Thick metal. None of it easily bends. Final result is a secure mount for your new light. Installation is a bit tricky. The kit comes with three self tapping screws and you need to set them a couple of inches up and into your existing recessed can. There isn't much room to maneuver the screws and your screw driver to make that happen. While they are self tapping, I ended up drilling pilot holes. Once you get past that, the rest is easy. Wing nuts and simple wiring you could do in your sleep. Now we have a chandelier where we once had an outdated looking can.

I have some old ugly square cans from the 50's with terrible light fixtures that I really wanted to update. So I did a ton of research on how to do this myself and save on crazy contracter prices. I came upon the canconverter in a forum somewhere but it is meant for circular cans. I called canconverter to see if they made a converter for square cans. They don't, however I spoke with someone for quite a while about my situation and how to proceed. He wasn't trying to sell the product at all, and tried to give me honest options. He even walked me through some electrical concerns I had concerning the ground wire. The best option did seem to be making the canconverter work with a few modifications. So I purchased the product through Amazon. When I first ordered this USPS didn't deliver it even though they reported they did on the tracking. I opened a case with USPS because I had video evidence that the package was never delivered. They refused to do anything about it and suggested I contact the seller. The seller sent a replacement without hesitation. Great customer service! Finally onto the product itself- it worked for my situation with some extra modifications and determination. I purchased some metal spacers and longer sheet metal screws at a hardware store for cents. I also had to cut a couple inches off the center hollow bolt with my miter saw so it'd fit in the existing can. The only pain was trying to drill new holes into the existing can, but this wasn't the canconverter's fault. It took some creativity and ingenuity but I finally got it all set up and working safely and aesthetically with the new light fixture. I would absolutely recommend this product for my situation, so obviously I'd recommend it for circular cans which it's really meant for without hesitation. I will probably be purchasing more to update some other light fixtures.

Pricey, but worked very well. A little tricky to put up so take your time or get someone who’s good with working ceiling items to help you hold our chandelier just fine which weighs about 9 pounds.

This product performs exactly as described, but it is much harder to install than the description implies. I worked in the home-building trades for nearly thirty years. I had my own business for six years and I used a lot of remodeling products. This device serves a very important niche application, but the installation is a daunting challenge. Can lights were all the rage fifty years ago, and they are still useful in some application, but the bloom is off the rose, so-to-speak. Enter these conversion kits. The converter does exactly what it claims and that is what makes it such a good solution. The devil is, as they say, in the details. Luckily, having had my own business, I have all of the tools necessary to complete a professional installation, but it was a challenge. Pilot holes had to be drilled in the can so that the mounting screws included with the conversion kit could be attached. The only way to do that was using a right-angle drill (something most homeowners probably do not have). Once the pilot holes were made a stubby screwdriver was needed to attach the various pieces of the kit. Once completed the new surface mount light fixture was able to be flawlessly mounted. All-in-all this is a great solution to the problem of old, outdated can lights; the installation is just a lot harder than the marketing material indicates. If not for that I would have given it 5 stars.
