I had one of these for about 15 years. The exterior surface must have broken down with age, as it had become “tacky” to the touch. But the mechanism still works perfectly. I am replacing only because of that stickiness. I’m counting on this one to work as well and last as long!

Can’t handle some corks. Stopped working. Junk.

For the past seven years and four months we've used a Brookstone electric wine opener that finally gave up, going from completely functional to done...appropriately dying at the end of opening one last bottle. Again...that's seven and a half years that I'm estimating at least 1500 bottles between our own wine consumption, parties, family events, etc., probably more. It also felt extremely solid, with minimal creaking, flexing, and motor straining. It's why I purchased this model.This model makes the old one feel like a toy. Even on larger, tough-to-open bottles, it just powers through with no drama, no flex, no motor hesitation, just cork up - cork down. It feels more substantially built all around, including a noticeably stronger motor, operating both more quickly and more quietly than it's predecessor. The foil cutter base is a useful addition. The previous models foil cutter was more substantial in feel, but not as functional in action.I used to think that Brookstone openers were more expensive because of the brand name, but this one is the real deal. While it's longevity remains to be seen, my prior experience with the brand and how incredibly solid this feels makes me confident.This is a great choice if you're looking for an electric wine opener and makes a great gift for a wine lover.The wine cutter that comes with this model feels less substantial than the previous model, but is far more functional. I never used the old foil cutter, but use this one every time.
