How big of a hole needs to be drilled? Several different answers, please provide smallest drillbit required

The instructions provide the size. The smallest is just a pilot hole to make the scholar easier to make. But the you only make it as wide as the inside tube.

Just installed mine today 5/8 spade. Not a 5/8 drill bit Amazon # B002GU6QAA.
