We moved into a new home, and one of the first things that we noticed was that the front door had no peephole. I originally wanted to get a doorbell camera or security camera, but then I realized that we should probable have this low tech solution to knowing who is at the door first. Install: This install took a bit longer than I expected because, after it arrived, I realized that my drill bit kit does not include the 5/8" bit required. So I had to order one of those and wait for it to arrive. Once it did, the install was very quick and easy. I picked an aesthetically pleasing location near the center of my French doors at eye level. I drilled a 1/8" pilot hole all the way through, trying to make sure that the resultant hole was as perpendicular to the door as possible. I then started a 5/8" hole on both sides of the door to prevent splintering when the drill bit comes through the back. Then finished off the hole. The peephole slide in easily and screwed down for the perfect fit. It looks very nice, and the view through it is very clear, especially during the day. This does provide a wider view than I am used to from my previous homes, but I do not think it approaches the 220° that it is advertised at. At that angle, I would have expected to see around to the door itself and all the was to the ground. I have the peephole installed about 5-1/4' height, and I can see the ground about 3' from the door. If there is a package directly at the doorstep I wouldn't be able to see it. It is still an improvement over what I was used to, and it will hold us over longer enough to add a higher tech solution to supplement it.

My garage doesn't have any front facing windows, so when I am in the garage and a vehicle pulls up out front, I can look out my peep-hole and see if it is at my house or a neighbor's house. Great quality with a wide angle lens. Serves my needs perfectly.

This was easy for my friend to put into my front apt door. You should have someone who knows how to install this, although it seemed straightforward . Looks good with the "brushed gold" color as it is a good "blended color contrast" to the bright brass door hardware I have.

Wow, pretty hard to get to excited about my front door peephole, but here goes. I changed all of my cabinet and door hardware to black for an updated and different look, so of course I needed a new black peephole. Two things about this item, the viewing clarity is pretty good or at least as good as you need for a peephole. I actually think the one that my builder installed in my door 10 years ago seemed to be a little clearer, but for less than 15 bucks you’re not going to get the Hubble telescope. Second and foremost this has a closable cover on it that I assume was installed so nobody could try to look in. I personally don’t really care about that, but with my old peep I would get the West sun shining through it for 2 to 3 hours a day and it would make a little bright dot on my interior wall. Now I just keep the plate down and no more stupid little spot on the wall.

I purchased this as our front door viewer was not really usable as the lens was very dirty and not clear. Install was easy enough to just drill a hole through the door the size of the shaft and it screwed into place. I would recommend this to anyone wanting or needing to replace their viewer. Also the sliding cover over the inside is a nice touch as well.

I wish they would have just said it would be 2 weeks as I was worried it was lost.

This is bigger than I thought but is good value for money. It's good quality and the lens is glass. To install you need a 1cm drill bit and a 28mm drill bit. Drill the 1cm pilot hole first. Then use the 28mm drill from both sides of the door, meeting in the middle. This will stop surface tearing of your door as the drill comes through. Use a little Vaseline between the door and the outside lens to seal it against moisture entry.
