Great piece of hardware, but really noisy...
I just took a star out because is really, really, but really noisy... you can hear it from another room with the doors closed. Besides that, is great, super fast and the noise issue, might apply just to some user like me that want to use it in house not in an office.

excellent value for the capabilities
This is an excellent value for the capabilities. We purchased this as an inexpensive way to connect several VMware servers to iSCSI storage as well as to route traffice between them (on multiple VLANs) and it has worked perfectly for this purpose.--Pros--* excellent value. you won't find these capabilities elsewhere at this price* fairly extensive management capabilities despite not being listed as a fully-managed product* easy to use and responsive web-interface* performs well - we have not observed any performance issues or bugs--Cons--* loud fans (just fine for a rack of already noisy servers, but would not be acceptable on a desk in an office environment for example)* some claimed feature support not fully baked - example: does not actually support all the SNMP mibs listed in specs* infrequent firmware updates, limited support by netgear (compared to a more expensive vendor - but you are not paying for that)* if you disconnect yourself from the web interface by using a wrong network setting in the advanced controls, your only recourse is the "reset to defaults" button on the front since there is no serial management capabilities like most managed switches.Would you use this as a backbone router for your network? probably not. Can you use it to connect a bunch of servers together at high speed? yes!

I got them to be dumb 10gig backplanes for our virtual servers
We have several of these for work. I got them to be dumb 10gig backplanes for our virtual servers.Three things sum them up.FAST,HOT,LOUDThe 4 star rating is for them overheating and locking up at slightly elevated server room temps, and the sensitive wire needs. They are side vent systems with the cold air incoming on one side and venting out the other. This is problematic in a server cage with front to back airflow. I had them stacked one ontop of the other and they kept having issues. I finally got creative and ducted air directly to the cold inlet and separated the switches by 2U and they are finally behaving but be aware if you are going to rely on them just treat them gently. They will work just fine especially if you use a redundant network configuration. The other issue I had was solved using proper CAT 6a cables rated for the speed, my rack only uses 6' cables but even in that length I had a number of issues with cards not linking at speed or suddenly having loss etc. Turned out the Cat 5e and Cat 6 cables we tired just didn't cut it. Turns out the (a) mattersCisco wanted $500+ per port, these deliver 10gig at around 1/4 that price. I am using this with a PURE $100k+ SSD SAN and 3 x $35k+ virtual hosts running more than 400 machines. These are the core switches for that fabric, and have no issues pushing the data at 4+ GigaBYTES per second(aggregate). Even if I have to replace them annually they are still less expensive than the competition. We looked into using Cisco since we have a few 4500 series modular switches but the cost to put 10gig on them was just too expensive for the limited number of ports we needed. So for now a set of these uplink by the SFP port to the Cisco's. These are great and I keep spares on hand because they are so inexpensive. Infact one is doing duty as a 10gig base-T to SFP+ converter because it works and it's still less costly than the alternative.I can't speak to any of the "features" since I use them exclusively as a layer 2 dumb switch.

Outstanding value and performance
This switch allowed me to build a 10G backbone in our small but high-bandwidth office network for a reasonable price. We have 3 servers with 10G cards connected to it as well as 4 other 1G switches with 10G uplink ports. The switch was simple to set up, the web interface is fairly modern (with the exception of the need for Java in some areas). But the performance that this switch allows between 10G-capable devices is the real story. For example, when backing up our primary server, we get transfer rates exceeding 1 GB (that's gigaBYTE, or 8x1G bit), and that's with RAID 6 arrays with 7200 rpm drives. So basically, the network is no longer our bottleneck. The price of this switch is also incredibly affordable compared to other brands, most of which off additional feature sets that aren't required in most smaller networks. Highly recommended.

Great, budget minded, well performing 10Gbit switch! What a surprise from Netgear
This is a good, budget 10Gbit switch. We are using it at the datacenter for SAN network. So far no complaints about performance or bugs. We also use the 24 port version of this at one of the clients for the storage interlink between servers. In both cases we are satisfied - it allowed us to save $5,000 over the next choice (Dell PowerConnect) and even more over Cisco. All the basic and required features are present - jumbo frames, VLANs, QOS, etc Works great in our VMware vSphere environment with EqualLogic SANs.

amazing speed and performance at a budget price
Paired this up with the intel T420's, amazing speed and performance at a budget price. This is the nicest switch I believe I have every had the pleasure of using. Lots of functionality and control.
