CPR Bak-Pak 2 Protein Skimmer

I had a coralife protein skimmer before, but I wasn't very happy with it. I purchased this skimmer for the low profile and it has exceeded my expectations. It was much easier to put together than the coralife and started working almost immediately (there was almost not break-in time). The collection cup is small, but it is very easy to clean. I've had the protein skimmer for a month and it seems to be doing a great job on my mature 55G tank. I highly recommend!

I returned the item because of a few problems with this.The sucking noise coming from the air intake is LOUD. I had this in my dinning room and I could still hear it sucking air over my TV in the living room. I expected some noise, but not that much. The biggest problem though was the bubbles. This thing puts out a million micro-bubbles. I had to turn the output towards the back wall and use filters to help reduce the bubbles but they never really went away.The customer service from this company is TOP NOTCH. I had no problems with them or returning the product.

Seems to work well but is being used in a reef tank that is currently cycling. Produces lots of tiny bubbles in the skimmer. Only rated this 4 stars as i had a leak around the gasket on the intake side but I fixed it using plumbers tape. Came with the updated Accela pump. When I ordered this skimmer, reviews had mentioned replacing the pump in the skimmer with an Accela so I purchased an Accela pump at the same time. Was pleasantly supprised to getting the updated pump with the skimmer. The skimmer was well packaged and arrived in pristine condition and setup was fairly simple. The outlet pipe has a reversable elbow with one side shorter than the other side to adjust for higher water levels.

Woke up to burning smell to find that the seam on the skimmer had leaked water all behind the fish tank and into and on to the power strip. Luckily I had woke up or who knows what would have happened. The power cord had burned almost through both sides. Very scary and very disappointed.

I read other reviews about noise but had no idea. This device makes such a racket that it has changed fish behavior. It appears to be from the motor itself. I will be returning this item and looking for another protein skimmer that works without negatively affecting fish behaviors.

Our 70 gallon tank is crystal clear! We love it and it works great! We've had it about two months and our water has never looked better!

I bought this about a year ago and just recently replaced the pump on it. It worked OK, I just really didn't like all the crap hanging in the tank (36 gallon bow front) it would probably be ok in a larger tank. The skimming was decent but never got a dark color like I was shooting for. I recently replaced it with a Bubble Magus QQ (rated up to 80G) - a much better and efficient skimmer, I'm now getting a very dark skimate. Much less intrusive on the tank as well. I believe they have the QQ1 on Amazon but not the 3, I found it on AquaCave for $111.00 on sale with free shipping around the holidays.
