Skins - Series 5 [DVD]

Apart from the DVD cover, which is so hideous it actually hurts my eyes, I have no complaints about this series of Skins.The series does focus much less on drugs and partying, so if that's why you watch Skins then it makes sense that you would enjoy this series less. But the characters are all so amazing and well developed and this is the first gen where I haven't hated any of the characters.Franky is probably my favourite character and her episode was the best of the gen in my mind. I found the storyline about bullying fantastically written and I empathised with her so much. Dakota Blue Richards is also an amazing actor. I found her developing friendship with Mini really interesting and I'm very hopeful that it will develop into something more next series. Mini may have seemed like a mean bitch stereotype at first, but that first impression was soon blew out of the window when her episode came along.I also found Rich and Grace to be adorable together and it seemed just like a first relationship: awkward, innocent and ver sweet. Whilst the marriage plot was kind of far fetched, it wasn't in comparison to previous series (Freddy, Thomas and Pandora in series four, anyone?) and I also felt that it made sense in context of those two characters.Overall I found this gen to be flawless, well written and acted superbly.

If you are a fan of Skins (no matter which generation) this is an item you must have. The best series of Skins in the best possible quality.This blu ray version contains all episodes from series 5 plus extras: 8 episodes of Behind the Scenes (3-7 minutes each). Video and audio quality is superb, and there are English subtitles available. Disc menu is attractive and well-designed.There is one difference from the original series that aired on E4, though. Because this is an Australian edition, I found out that the first episode has a completely different soundtrack than the British version (e.g. you won't find here 'Be Brave' by The Strange Boys as an opening song for the scene when Franky wakes up). Other episodes seem to have the same soundtrack as original ones, but I wish the first one weren't an exception.

When the first two series of Skins had came to an end, I actually felt very sad to see the original cast go. Series 3/4 was surprisingly better than I expected but you could see it was taking a darker route. This series proved Skins had well and truly ran its course and it was no surprise that series 6 would be its last.The cast feel very unlikable and annoying, so much so that it almost feels deliberate. The shock factor that has gradually gotten more intense over the last 4 series completely goes through the roof - and not in a good way. All this series seems to promote is that all teenagers are drug taking, drinking, sex-mad idiots - very unrealistic to actual reality (in most cases). I know that the last few series' were full of this too, but the difference was you felt there was much more to the characters than just that. This cast also seems devoid of any acting ability.On a positive note, I think the next series is a little better but you have to get through this one first so I guess it will be worth it in the end.

Characters are not as enticing as in previous seasons. There is less "under the skin" tension. It seems to me to be a little more forced and therefore less gripping. For example i find Mini too "gossip girl" and stereotyped. I also find it difficult to believe the Frankie character: she is too stylish and her background as a bullied student seems artificial. However, it is a fascinating series and i am glad they continued with additional seasons.

Ok so its not as good as the previous seasons but i think once season 6 comes out i'll love the characters. The music is amazing!! Cant wait for season 6!!! Also one more thing, there are only 8 episodes, which definately is not long enough. I gave it 4 stars cause u cant beat series 3-4!

I loved every series of Skins, this one is the only series that left me a positive energy and joy after the final episode. All characters evolve and change for the better, soundtrack is at its best, as photography and direction. A general dissatisfaction might depend on the fact that a new generation starts for the second time and it's always a bit difficult for some nostalgics of the previous characters.

Was happy to find this available on here as most shops don't sell this. I liked watching the series on tv so was happy to get this to rewatch whenever I like.
