Redcat Racing11011H12 Back Plate for Electric Starter Fits Vertex 0.16, 0.18, and SH 0.18 and 0.21 Engines

We bought this in place of the hand starter. This product together with the wand works real well if you can find a device that will have enough torque and rpm to spin the wand/motor well enough to start the engine. We modified a RC gas airplane 12v electric starter's nose cone cup. We took out the rubber insert and placed in a hard wood plug/chuck that extends out an inch. We drilled out the center to accept the wand, inserted it into the plug and placed in two small screws opposite one another to hold it securely in the plug. Then one more larger screw threaded thru the side of the aluminum starter cup and into the plug. Works great! Don't have to take the Volcano's body off to start. Just have a hole for the glow plug igniter, insert the wand and that high torque electric starter has no problem at all spinning over that .18 motor. Much higher rpm that an electric drill (we tried that, too slow to start Volcano consistently). The plug/chuck was hardwood turned down to fit into the aluminum cup but extending about an inch past the cup to allow room for the two wand securing screws. If done right it is reliable. Haven't had an issue since and can focus on fun!

Makes it easier for me to start my .21 engine. Way better than the pull start. My arm was getting tired and the spring in the pull cord was starting to wear out. A bit awkward location for the Redcat Earthquake 3.5 though. I have to stick the starting wand in thru the back a- arm and shock. Wish it was more of a clear shot to the the back plate. Other then that it functions well.

so couple things heremake sure u loctight the screws it is a pain in the butt to find replacements not in packs of 100 and costing less that $5+shippingwhen i tighten this down fully there is alot of resistance on the gear even with a lot of lubricanti placed 4 thin plastic washer in between these 2 plates and its perfectly smooth with 0 resistanceif you get this you will be happy how easy your machine starts

Good product but cheap soft plastic. This was for my Redcat Shockwave. It was a perfect fit for my car/engine. The drill has to go in reverse to start it but no biggie. You will need grease b4 installing. I used Hi Temp break grease and removable lock tight for the screws. If you dont use the grease the product will probably break due to heat and friction.

Love it works great just need to unscrew the pull starter and replace it with the new starter *for those who dont know it doesn't come with the dog bone you need to start it or the motor you connect it too

Fit and finish is good, about as good as you would expect from Redcat. But it works out well, they should also advertise the OS .21 (newer style 3.5 engines) as well.

It works good with the drill want but I fear it will blow out my engine.
