I bought this because I wanted to try the system and didn’t want to pay the prices asked for some of the fancier sets. Bottom line, this works. I live alone, so there is only me, so I’m not generating tons of garbage, but anything that I have that is biodegradable goes in this, from scraps of paper to banana peels and egg shells, meat scraps or dried up cheese. I would have given it a higher score but the lid that fits over the top is somewhat flimsy and I’m concerned about how long it will last. If it does really well, I’ll upgrade the score! The system is fine without the drain and all the bells and whistles. I found a dinner plate for a buck at a thrift store and that works to weigh down the stuff until ready to dump. I keep both buckets going - one “aging” and the other collecting from the small canister on my counter. Then I dump it in my “compost” pile and cover it in a layer of soil. I live in town, so a smelly traditional compost seemed like a non-option. This works beautifully. It doesn’t draw critters, doesn’t smell, doesn’t even draw flies. I’m happy with it. Once I’ve begun to use the compost in my garden and pots I’ll try to remember to update this.

so far so good except for flimsy lids that can be eaten thru by rodents or do not fit correctly. why not rigid lids?

I received the wrong product from this company after an advertising mix-up. Within hours of posting my complaint and asking for a replacement I was contacted by email. I received full reimbursement, correction and sincere apologies from the company. I would rate the customer service 5 stars.

The lids fell apart quickly. I wish I could order just lids because the buckets held up well.
