Rage Powersports 48" Folding Bumper Hitch Cargo Carrier Tray

After 23 years, the demise of my F-150 left me with no options, the 2012 CR-V is not really suited to dumping firewood or bricks into the back for neither short of long hauls. This hitch mounted platform is better than I imagined, sturdy, folds up,carried more weight than I thought and mounted on/off readily. Although,with a little foresight I think I prevented a couple of concerns. One, I also purchased the dual hitch extension which raises the platform a good 4" and sets it off from the bumper another few extra inches which allows easy clearance in lifting the rear door of the CR-V. The height especially when loaded with a few hundred pounds prevented scraping the carrier when turning off flat roadways up into uphill drives and uneven terrain. I installed a class III 2"x2" hitch which fits a CR-V, giving better weight capacity than a class II 1 3/4". It's been great in moving firewood around from one side of yard to the other eliminating the wheel barrel.Easy to assemble and not too heavy or bulky. Actually, just right. If I had ordered the 60" it would made the CR-V look weird and would be heavier to lug around while installing. Reviewed several makes with others of same style costing twice as much. Very satisfied with construction and gauge of metal.Another concern, is thief while parked in remote locations. Since the cargo platform does attached readily and easily, means it is also removed readily and easily to be placed into someone pick-up. I guess it takes a thief to recognized a thief's opportunity. I purchased (2) locking hitch pins and now I no longer have any concern while hiking.

Went together easily. All of 8 bolts required. The tray is held to the post with 3 bolts, so it is a simple task to disassemble and keep inside the vehicle in 2 pieces when not in use. Takes seconds to reassemble and the post is easy to insert and secure into the hitch this way. I don't need it often, but I need to have it with me when I do need it, so this really works for me.On my 2016 Ford Explorer, the clearance to the ground is 18" If I put a spacer under the bar where the pivot is, the bar is straight and the clearance is 20".

This worked fine for the one use I had intended and will be using it again. As I was assembling, the bolts that attach each half to the main center support bar caused the sides to droop about an inch. Corrected this by enlarging the bolts that attach the two sides to each other, which prevents them from being drawn onto the droop position. Should be around for several years.

Very easy to use.

Used this hitch on a 1200 mile road trip loaded with a cargo bag, 4 beach chairs and a stroller. The hitch was reasonably easy to put together and easy to operate to move the hitch up and down. The hitch was fairly stable and only made noise going over potholes in the city. Only concern was when taking beach gear, it appears that loading a medium size cooler skewed the hitch to one side. However, the hitch was fine on the way back so perhaps no loss of structural integrity.

This cargo carrier works well for me. It was not difficult to put together (I had one person helping me hold it). However, the instructions are not very clear as the manufacturer printed assembly instruction for 3 different cargo carriers in one manual.I took it on a 600 mile trip and it was fine. However, it scrapes the pavement on a steep driveway installed on a SUV. I used it with a waterproof cargo bag by Rola (#59102). It's rather heavy and may require two people to attach to the hitch.I like the folding feature.
