A zero friction delight to shoot.
The Leica CL is a wonderful everyday camera which is a pleasure to shoot. The IQ is classic "Das Wesentliche" -- easy and intuitive to shoot. I find Leica cameras are the zero friction option. The CL is no exception and you should be able to figure out the essential operation without the manual once you understand how to use the two clever button/dials on the top. I started on Canon and then had a many year fling with the Fuji X system (X-Pro1, X-Pro2, X100T, and X100F) before abandoning completely for the Leica M10 and CL. The Fujis were good, but about 20% of the time maddening because of their wonky AF and abysmal manual focus. The CL's AF is significantly more accurate and faster than the Fujis. The CL is a tremendous camera for street photography with the 18 mm. The compact size means there is no excuse not to always carry this camera. This is my camera on the days I when I should be working and don't want to carry the M10 around. Sometimes the CL AF fails at very short distances. Otherwise, it is essentially flawless. My girlfriend often purchases photography professionally for her business and loves the images the CL produces. The big decision at this price point is CL or Q?If you prefer the versatility of smaller size, interchangeable lens, and additional modern settings/options, then the CL is a better choice. If you are committed to 28 mm focal length and want M-style manual focus, the Q is better -- the manual focus on the CL is difficult for street photography because you must use focus peaking and can't really shoot it zone system, e.g., set the focus to two meters, because there is no distance scale. However, you can solve this by purchasing the M-Adapter L, which allows you to mount any M lens on the CL. The resulting system, especially when combined with a Voigtlander Skopar pancake lens, is fun, small, and effective.
