Light and Easy and Effective
I bought this mower to replace my old, heavy petrol rotary mower. My garden is up above the house, up steps and so the old mower rarely got put away because it was so heavy, so it got rusty and unreliable. This flymo is very light, you can pick it up with one hand and so it now gets well looked after and doesn't clutter up the garden - it lives in the shed.My lawn is more like a rough section of field and the ground is uneven and the grass is pretty rough. The Turbo 400 easily tackled the first cut of the season and the rough, sloping ground. Here is an important point - after raking up the cuttings from that first cut, I have not needed to bother since as it produces fine mulch that all but disappears apart from a few lumps of cuttings that are easily picked up. The secret is to cut it often and with the mower being so light and easy to take out and put away this is not a huge chore really. There are plastic blade-height spacers and a chunky plastic spanner that clip to the mower handle. You use the spanner to remove the blade and insert the spacers behind it. It is easier to use than it sounds and, for me, once I had a blade height that I liked I just left it at that.I was a hovver mower sceptic but I am very pleased with this mower.

This mower revolutionised my mowing.
I have had lots of Flymos. All petrol-driven. One was even a 4-stroke.I have a large garden. I had assumed that an electric machine would be difficult to get round and that it would not be powerful enough. My existing 2-stroke Flymo was getting a bit old and I found it heavy. It was alright on the level, but I use it for the slopes, of which we have plenty as we live in the Peak District. This is the most powerful electric Flymo and I saw how light it is. I can easily carry it. The old one I used to put on a wheelbarrow.I have a 50m cable and there is a generous cable with the machine and it reaches where I want it to. It cuts very well. It is a pleasure to use whereas the old one used to put me off with its weight.

I like it
Bought this to replace a petrol drive mower. The area of grass to cut is large and very up and down, basically like a mowed field, the petrol mower was very heavy to manoeuvre and i wanted something lighter as grass cutting is a chore to me. This is very good, you can almost operate it one handed using it like a hoover. You can easily mow banks whereas with the petrol mower it was so heavy you had a job not to be pulled down behind it. The chord is a pain, but i knew it was going to be, I also find it gets clogged up underneath frequently but this is mainly because the grass always seems to be damp when i cut it. The price is good compared to a few hundred pounds for a good petrol mower. It's light to pick up and carry around. I did buy the extension chord to go with it which is also good. It looks easily breakable but is actually surprisingly robust. I would recommend this mower, I only knocked a star off for the inconvenience of trailing a chord around but i think the lightness of the machine more than makes up for this. I know alot of people don't like hover mowers but if you are not a grass fanatic wanting a perfect lawn then this is very good.

A great mower
This is a great electric mower. I had a Flymo L470 petrol mower which has died and wanted to replace it, this is obviously not comparable to the L470 in terms of robustness and power but I've been using it for the same tasks and it has performed really well. I use it for cutting the lawn edges under the bushes and on those small rough areas of the garden that are "no-go" for wheels. It is light enough to push and pull with the right arm while managing the cable in the left hand. The 1500w motor produces sufficient "hover" to make it easy enough for one handed operation - make sure you have your steel toe caps on though. It does a great job of cutting (6 inch) long grass and tough weeds and has a good cut width. No grass collection but I think it is better to mulch.

Does the job as an edge trimmer ready for my big mower.
Works OK. All the spacers need to be fitted. I bought it just to do round the edges of my large lawn. My petrol mower wheels tend to fall over the edge of the grass, gorging out a chunk of lawn. The levers are unbelievable cheap and horrible though. Also, why don’t Flymo supply some plasic hooks that will fit onto the handle frame so the cable can be wound onto them when storing away. I’ve had to make a couple which I fitted in place with jubilee clips.Perhaps the machine ought to be asssembled in China - then at least the serial number label would be fitted straight and not just stuck on lop-sided.

Review of my experiences with 'Flymo Hover Mowers'
This is the third hover Flymo Mower I have had. The first lasted 25years, this had a metal blade and only burnt out because thegrass cuttings compacted under the motor 'hood' and it over heated. The second Flymo was inherited from my Mum, a Microlite Flymo with plastic blades, which were easy to replace but once again grass compacted under the hood and the motor burnt out.I was extremely pleased with both the above lawn mowers. I have problems with prolapsed neck and back discs and find personally that the Flymo hover mowers are light, easy to handle, reliable, good value for money and cut the grass beautifully. We have a grass slope in our garden and the Flymo handles this with ease. The grass cuttings with this particular hover mower are, I have found very minimal. I do religiously scrape and clean the underside of the mower but will keep a close eye on grass collecting in other places. All round an excellent product.
