Wobbly, tie downs not long enough, instructions not the best
Update: Have had several storms and the carport tent has held up well.Just finished putting together this carport tent. It took my husband and I about 4 hours to set it up. It took longer to square it up, level the legs, and tie it down than to assembly the unit. The price was reasonable and it was the only one I could find that would work for a high top van.A couple of notes about the product itself. We used the extension poles for the 11 foot height. You may have a different experience if you set it up for the 9 foot height.- The poles are not white. They are raw metal and will leave black grime all over your hands or gloves. Disappointed as the poles do not look as nice as white ones would have. I purchased the white top with no sides. The picture on Amazon looks like white poles.- It came with 8 rope tie downs. If you use one rope, you will need to go straight down to the ground, not out at an angle as shown in the pictures. We tied a couple together to have enough to go outward a bit when at the 11 foot height.- The rope is slippery nylon. It does not hold a knot well. The ends were also unraveling, so we had to melt them.- The straps across the top are also only long enough to go straight to the ground and have nothing to attached them to. We added rope we had and tied them to bricks.- We received only one light string. I will contact the seller and see if they will send me the second one- There is a solar light included. The pictures show it mounted at the front peak of the tent. Not sure how this can be done - drill holes in the metal roof cross support? They included 2 small screws and plastic screw anchors.- The pop pins (spring clips) were nice for assembly, but they are not part of the extensions. The extensions used bolts and wing nuts for connecting. I wish the leg pipes were just 2 pieces with pop pins used to adjust the height. It will be very difficult to adjust the height once you have put it together. You will need to unbolt and remove the extension pieces (or add them if going higher). I liked the pop pins for easy assembly, but I think they also made the whole unit less stable.- The legs were very wobbly - we did use both extensions since we needed the 11 foot height. We had to hold the carport up in place and quickly put a few tie downs in or it would have fallen over.- Our installation is on concrete, so we could not bolt the legs to the ground. We will pick up some cement bolts tomorrow and this should help. Their installation is not meant for concrete without purchasing more hardware.- We found the stakes did not hold well in the ground. Our ground next to the concrete pad was too soft. You will need hard compacted soil to use the stakes, or like us, tie the ropes to concrete blocks.- I would look for a carport that also has cross bars at the bottom for more stability. This one does not.Instructions were poor or nonexistent in a few cases.- There were no instructions on how to add the extension poles. They have to be added at the bottom of the leg poles before you attach the feet. I think these are an after thought as they have to be bolted and they are not included in the parts list.- It is not clear which side of the tarp is up. It could easily be put on wrong and not noticed until you went to clip it to the side poles.- The straps that go across the top are nice, but there is nothing in the instructions and they are not in the parts list. Again, no way to attach them, so we used rope and tied them to concrete blocks.- No instructions on how to use the sand bags. It looks like you should fill them, close the Velcro opening, then turn them over to attach them to the poles. I feel like the rain would easily soak through the Velcro opening if I did not turn them upside down.- Instructions sometimes call the same part a different name.I am not sure how well it will hold up in a storm. I did buy 4 extra sand bags for the legs, and we may even strap it to the car if heavy winds are expected LOL.
