Are they padded for wheelchair users?

The gloves are comfortable to put on and remove, and are padded. However, the leather finish is such that it takes a while to break them in enough to get a good, grip on the wheelchair. I think these were made with cyclists in mind, and decided to market them as wheelchair gloves as well.

how far back to the wrist does the padding go? how far over to the thumb?

Mine have full padding from thumb joint to palm. Palm padding stops where the palm hits the wrist. I use these for bicycle - work great. Could be used for any activity to pad/protect the palm and lower finger grips.

I don't see any size charts either or any way to tell what size would fit. I guess you're going to have to just buy the size of work gloves that you would normally buy and hope for the best. If you don't know what size work gloves you would wear go to the store and try them on and then you might even find something better than these.

Does the padding actually extend to the bottom inch of the finger like it seems from one of the pictures?

Yes it's exactly like in the picture. I have had these gloves for a considerable length of time now and they're perfect.
