Quartet Alpha Chalk, 5/8" Diameter, Golden Ivory, 12 Sticks per Pack (333005)

I really like this chalk! I’m a teacher and very picky about such things! It writes so smoothly and the thick size is great for me—my handwriting stays neater. It arrived in good condition. The only drawback is that it is dusty, but I’ll be sticking with!

Ordered 2 boxes cause some reviews said some pieces arrived broken. Same here. Overall had 4 pieces broken counting both boxes. Not terrible I guess, but not great either.My daughter needed this chalk for the LSU dental school chalk carving exam. Perfect for that purpose and it served it’s purpose well. Otherwise, It’s chalk!

I work at a restaurant that has a menu that changes every day. We write the menu on a very large chalkboard. This chalk is visible from a distance and photographs well. It is not 'dusty'-it writes with a clear thick line. The color is pleasing and easy to read.

UPDATE (Jan 2015): I recently ordered this chalk again, and was very disappointed. Apparently Quartet recently changed the formula for this chalk (rebranding it "Alphacolor") to make it far less dense, meaning-The "nice clear", smooth, and easily readable line is now rough and choppy. Furthermore, it no longer erases as easily as before.-It's much rougher in the hand to write with than before.-Instead of one box of 12 sticks lasting a full term with some chalk left over, I went through two full sticks in one 80-minute lecture.In short, everything that used to be good about is chalk is now mediocre to bad. Meanwhile, the price went up 50%. I'm not going to bother ordering it again.---------------OLD REVIEW (left here for posterity, but no longer accurate): Overall I was very happy with this chalk. It felt comfortable in the hand, and wrote with a nice clear line that was easily readable from far away (except for my awful handwriting...but that's not the chalk's fault!) I'm planning on buying another box next time I get stuck using a chalkboard.That being said, I had two issues with it. The "low dust" didn't really seem much lower than usual for me, though I guess it wasn't any worse than other chalk I've used. More seriously, Amazon does not seem to pack this chalk well for shipping. In my case the chalk arrived in an envelope with no other padding, and the lower layer of chalk sticks were almost all broken (for the most part into large enough pieces to still be usable). From other reviews I've read, this seems to be a common problem with Alpha chalk ordered through Amazon.Still, the good outweighs the bad here.

Not sure how it works for chalkboards, but works great to practice for the chalk carving portion of the LSU Dental School Interview. I bought two boxes and carved almost every stick. Had no problem with the actual carving and got in to the school.Cheers

What I like is that it holds up well during class and only a few pieces were broken on arrival. It would better if there was no breakage; perhaps better packing.What I didn't like is the piece of chalk is shorter in length than before. The cost is expensive - is there a discount rate for teachers or for purchasing a larger quantity?

I do chalkboard art for wedding and had a bride specifically request ivory colored chalk. This color is excellent. I was worried it would look to yellow but its a great ivory color! Not quite sure why the price is so high.

Awesome chalk. Low resistance to pushing/writing, though I wouldn't call it low dust (maybe I push too hard). I love how soft it is, which enables you to write and draw more freely. Worth a shot on your chalkboard.
