Ideal for older style serial output ( not USB) Garmin GPS and link up with Nikon MC 35 connector.
Product as described. Fast postage. Would recommend seller and use again. Item was used for an older style Etrex GPS, which in turn was connected to a Nikon MC 35 GPS connector and D800. Photos can now show Lat & long data with date, time info. As my GPS unit does not have a compass , directional data has not been captured, but would have done if available. Note that this is for older style GPS Ie serial out put ( 4 contacts in a rectangular row ) not for USB port GPS units. The rectangular plug has a grove which fits on to a ridge on the GPS unit, thus ensuring correct connection, as there is only one way to plug in. I will be looking forward to taking this to Africa this year and giving it a real test.

Useful cable for Garmin Extrex H
This is an essential cable to make the most of your Garmin Etrex H GPSrConnect to a serial port on your PC (if you have one) else you will need to get a USB-Serial cable/connector.The cable allows bulk upload and download of data between the pc and GPSr including: geocaches, waypoints, routes and tracks. The Garmin connector on this cable is unusual but it does make a good firm connection. However it does not provide power to the GPSr unit, which will need to have batteries in.Basically it does the job.

Garmin please make a USB cable.
As an ealier reviewer stated why do Garmin not make a USB connection and I agree, I had a few problems installing a driver for the RS232 serial port to USB , this was the first time I had used one of these and the hardware does not show up the same way as with a USB connection you get a com link and you have to have software installed that will connect with Garmin Etrex H, EasyGPS comes free and will connect with the Etrex. There are one piece USB cables made by third paries and I wish I had bought one of them instead of this Garmin serial.

well worth having
Gave my old Garmin 201 GPS new lease of life.... Allowing download of routes & waypoints direct from mapping software.Needed a USB to RS232 adapter to connect up to PC but that was easily sourced and worked first time.

It works
The item does exactly what it is supposed to do. It would be helpful if Garmin were to develop a cable with a USB plug rather than this slightly outmoded and cumbersome RS-232 connector, which also requires another adapter cable.

Four Stars
Very expensive for a cable, but well-made and reliable and does what it says on the tin.

Needs additional driver
I had some trouble getting this cable to be recognised by the pc. I heard to search the internet for a suitable driver. Product would be improved if this came with it or at least a l ink to a website were it could be found. Worked fine eventually,
