It's a lid.
Fits the pan perfectly and is of good quality. If I had a concern it would be that the lid handle and depression is too shallow! This chap burns the backs of his fingers every single time he picks the lid up!! Maybe its only meant to be used for cold foods? Other than that it is good value..
