A very useful bit of kit for the home.
Got this as A Christmas present but tried it out myself. This has a dual voltage range, so low voltages can be detected. My own doesn't have this facility. I know from experience this is an extremely useful bit of kit for detecting mains voltage. Just place the tip near a plug, wire or socket and the tip lights up red. Way better than using the old style "screwdriver" neon testers. Four stars as I've not used this for any length of time.

Sensitivity overcome with digital readout
Whilst the device can pick up power 2feet away from reality (as others have said) it does have a numerical readout on the top which helps to pinpoint the power signal more accurately. The higher the number the closer you are to the power cable.

This is ok, doesnt give a very acurate reading. I would get a higher quality or priced voltage tester.

Best I've ever used
I've used many different no contact voltage sniffers over the years and this one is the best. I have 3 in my tool collection that drive me crazy with false positives, which makes them useless and I will toss them now. Watch the video and that tells you all you need to know. (By the way, it was set on the higher voltage range (lower sensitivity), 70 - 1000VAC). It reliably distinguishes between hot and neutral, even in a crowded box. It shuts off after an appropriate time, which if you are busy working is nice to count on. Also, the fact that it uses common AAA batteries and you don't need a tiny screwdriver to open it up to change batteries is just so nice, compared to many other testers
