Q: When mounting as a "recess side fix", do you have to first drill holes in the plastic covers? Manual is unclear.

You can remove the plastic cover of the brackets when mounting it as it should just slide out. For further assistance, please contact the seller directly.

Q: The illustrations all show the pull cord on the right of the blind. Can this be fitted on the left, if needed?

Yes, pull cords can be installed on either side no problem.
