About Polk Audio In the beginning, there was Matt Polk, George Klopfer and Sandy Gross. They popped out of college in the early seventies with top-shelf physics and mechanical engineering degrees. They knew about stuff like The Haas Effect, and how Phase Distortion Synthesis affected audio signals, and at least three definitions of the word amplitude. But all they really wanted to do was listen to music at home. Today, Polk remains a home-grown success story. As the largest audio brand of DEI Holdings, Polk is still proudly based in Baltimore, right where we started. Our engineers and designers now hold more than 65 patents for pioneering advances in audio design and technology. These innovations have influenced the audio industry many times over.

Lightweight, very comfortable, & sound quality that far exceeds the price
It’s impossibly difficult to pass up a good deal. That’s why I quickly pulled the trigger and picked up a pair of these when they went on sale for an unbeatable $35 on Amazon! After getting them in the mail and listening to them for several hours, I can say I wouldn’t hesitate to pay twice that. The Hinge on-ear headphones aren’t new by any means. In fact, they came out a few years ago. Originally priced at $179, Polk’s own website has these on sale for $59 as of this writing, down from the $129 current retail price. While quite a steal at $35, I wouldn’t be able to justifiably pony up $180 for them.Design and BuildPolk’s Hinge headphones are good looking, made with either black and cream leatherette with silver aluminum hinges or brown and cream with gold hinges. The headband has nice looking stitch work around the entirety of the headphones, making them look that much more premium. The ear cups are very plush, and the headphones as a whole are extremely lightweight and comfortable to wear for extended periods. Despite being so lightweight, they seem to be plenty durable, which is necessary considering they are intended for travel use. The Hinge fold up to be pretty small and come with a cool, although non-protective, carrying bag made of cloth and leather. The ear cups swivel slightly to adjust to the exact angle of your ears, while the headband adjusts for height. For me, they are just a little larger than my ear itself, and I couldn’t be happier with the fit. While testing, I did a fair bit of moving around, including cleaning my house; I even moved my motorcycle into my shed. Regardless of what I was doing, the headphones stayed in place and were comfortable, though I wouldn’t recommend trying to wear them to the gym. With any on-ear headphones, eyeglass wearers will experience some discomfort eventually from the pressure applied by the headphones. One thing that makes these headphones that much more valuable is they have a detachable cable. The reason it’s so good is because the cable that comes with it, which includes a 3-button in-line Apple remote, is terrible. The jack that attaches to the phone is an ‘L’ shape, which could make it difficult, if not impossible, to use with certain phone cases. The remote feels very cheap and it rattles when moved; nothing that can be heard through the music, but poor quality nonetheless. The end that goes into the headphones uses the mini connector, so it’s easy to find replacement cables. In fact, my Harman Kardon Bluetooth headphones use the same connector, and the cable perfectly matches the silver finish of the Hinge, although it has no in-line remote. Although keeping the original cable won’t hurt the listening experience (unless it doesn’t fit into your case), it is always nice to be able to change it out regardless, as the cable is usually the weak point on any pair of cans. One surprising pain point on the headphones are the ear cups themselves. Although they don’t look bad, they certainly do not match the aesthetics of the headband. They are cheap looking plastic, clearly more of an afterthought that the designers hoped would be overlooked due to the headband covering a good portion of them. Luckily, they look fine from a distance and should hold up.Sound QualityI have been pleased with the sound of the Hinge. Clearly not made to be audiophile grade accurate, they have a pleasant sounding warm tone. There is a good bit of bass, though not completely accurate. The mids are overly pronounced, but the highs were acceptable. As always, I listened to a variety of metal, rock, hip hop, EDM, and classical music when testing. Metal and rock music both sound decent, although the mids show through more than I prefer. Bullet for My Valentine’s ‘Your Betrayal’ sounded a bit muddy in the midrange, although the double bass came out well in the recording.Static-X and their industrial rock sound began making these headphones come to life. Hip Hop sounds better still, with plenty of bass to keep you engaged in the music without blowing your ears out. EDM music, such as Skrillex, shows what these were designed for; the electronic notes blast out of the drivers and force the wearer to bob his/her head. Surprisingly enough, classical piano and symphonic music alike sound good through the Hinge as well.ConclusionTo me, the Hinge are meant for young adults who are on the go and still design driven in their purchasing decisions, but know that Beats aren’t the way to go. They have a good looking design, are light, compact, and comfortable, and their performance far exceeds their $35-60 price tag. If you typically listen to music that is electronically produced, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick these up. If you’re exclusively into rock and metal music, you may want to reconsider. Although, since $35 is nothing to drop on a pair of headphones, you really can’t go wrong, even if you only use these as a backup. Overall, I would rate them a 4; however, the sound to price ratio cannot be beat, thus the 5 star rating.

Awesome sound AND great comfort
I bought these to test at the same time as another pair (Symphonized Wraith), expecting to either send one pair back, or give one to my husband. These are the headphones I kept. For me, it was not just about the sound (although the sound is truly wonderful - the best I have ever heard from on-ear headphones), but about comfort and portability.- The sound is awesome. It is not bass-heavy at all, which lets the midtones shine. The highs are not shrill or tinny. Very rich, warm sound that is well-suited to the type of music I listen to most often.- The headphones are small, which is a good thing for me - my ears are very small and most on-ear and over-ear headphones encircle my ears completely. These sit on my ear, without encircling them, but are very comfortable. Best of all, there's no sound leakage and there's a really nice amount of noise isolation - the best of all worlds, in my opinion.- The headband is very comfortable and I didn't notice any pressure points or tightness I couldn't adjust away.- The hinge design makes these very portable and stowable. I've already taken them on a business trip, and it was nice to be able to fold them up and stash them in my laptop bag with ease. Ideally, it would have been nice to have gotten a rigid case to carry them in with the headphones, but I'm sure I can find something that will work.- The inline microphone and controls work wonderfully with my Nexus 5 phone.I think if you are like me, and have a smaller head and ears and are looking for great sound, you will not be disappointed by these. My husband tried them and found them uncomfortable, but he has an average-size head and above-average size ears, for a guy. The Symphonized Wraiths were a better fit for him, and for me - I can't divorce fit and ease of wear from sound, in headphones (as long as the sound is good - I'm not going to wear comfortable headphones that sound terrible).Polk has been making great audio components for a long time, and they have continued their legacy of quality products with these headphones. I don't think you'll be disappointed with this purchase.

Nice for the price
Not too shabby, but not worth paying full price. The sound is fine, rich lows and sweet highs, never muddy or tinny, and the cups on these cans do a good job of keeping out ambient noise from your environment. They are quite comfortable for long periods, though slightly tight. If you need thicker rimmed glasses, they may irritate. I happened to have some thinner rimmed ones available, and it once I switched they felt perfect. The mic and the in-line vol/music controller are crap. The controller seems to only work on a few phones. The mic is insensitive and static-y.The cord is waay too short. Like, really way too short. It's fine for a portable device in your pocket or strapped to your arm for workouts, but barely. For plugging in to your tower or laptop for games or just relaxing with videos or music, it will be constantly tugging on the cable. This is guaranteed to shorten the life of any headphones, not to mention irritating as hell.Still, way better bargain than when they were three times the price. Comfy enough, dandy fidelity, and they look pretty cool as a bonus. Recommended, though I wouldn't get another pair without another big price drop.PS: almost forgot one of my favorite things that is mentioned NOWHERE, instead of a main cord you plug in that splits into two (one for the left, one for the right), there's just a single cord from the right that feeds both cups. Simple, no tangles, same sound (the split is hidden in the headband, instead of being a noose around your neck). Been seeing more of this lately, but not nearly enough. I wish the cord was off the left to keep my right hand free, but beggers/choosers/whatever.

Semplicemente ottime

Surprisingly pleased by the headphones
Very good and especially comfortable headphones. Pads on ears are great.I won't comment about audio quality as I am not an audiophile, but this is comparable to my Bose OE headphone i previously owned.I hesitated between refreshing my Bose OE headphone or this, and I am very satisfied of choosing this headphone. It feels less cheap and is definitely more comfortable than Bose OE headphones.
