Benss Fingerprint Reader Analyzer for Windows 7 8 10 Hello, Fingerprint Scanner Wireless Biometrics Computer Security Login Lock with WQHL Certification for PC Laptop

As you can see in the picture I have tested and worked with many fingerprint sensors for almost 20 years. The Benss sensor is definitely the smallest one we have tested so far. There are two Benss sensors in the picture. Can you find them? We recently integrated our bioLock biometric control center for SAP ERP with Windows Hello. So, we are identifying easy to use and easy to install fingerprint devices that work with Windows Hello. From the user perspective the Benss Sensor is clearly worth a recommendation. On some laptops it was a little difficult to install and required downloading the drivers from the providers website (as indicated on the packaging). Other laptops like Lenovo and Dell were plug and play - BUT they required a restart after the installation for the sensor to be recognized. We also tested the device with a Microsoft Surface with build in face recognition. Here the face recognition and the fingerprint were “fighting”, and we had to disable the face recognition for it to work well. But a normal buyer will purchase this device for a laptop with no biometrics installed and they will be very happy to see, how fast the sensor logs on to Windows. You can also create multiple Windows profile (for the family) and each can enroll their finger to their profile (optional you can enroll multiple finger from different users to one profile). But we like the option for the user to put the finger on and it will identify the user based on the finger and open the user’s profile. This is great for fast user switching, if multiple users share a PC at work for smaller tasks (warehouse / health care etc.). Great product, but keep it in the laptop at all times, otherwise you will be searching for it a lot 😊

**** CHECK YOUR WINDOWS UPDATE SECTION FOR ADDITIONAL DRIVER UPDATES ****OK, so first thing's first... once it's working, this fingerprint reader works perfectly (in my quick testing). It's compact and it seems to accept my fingerprint pretty much immediately. I haven't tried any others, but I don't see how it could even be improved, so I would definitely recommend this one.I have Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview (Version 2004) and even though Windows said it was setting up the device when I plugged it in, it never really did. After looking at various reviews and Q&A here, it first looked like I was going to have to return this. I tried different USB ports and they all did the same thing. That wasn't completely unexpected, but I went to the Benss website for the drivers to install manually and the only driver package they have didn't seem to do anything other than change the listing in my Device Manager. Windows Hello said I didn't have a fingerprint reader and Device Manager said the device couldn't start, so the drivers wouldn't actually install. I restarted and tried again with all available ports, but was still stuck. I decided at that point I'd have to just return it thanks to the lack of driver support.Then I tried one more thing... I went into the Windows settings and in the updates section, I checked for additional updates (I remembered seeing extra driver downloads in there before). Lo and behold, there was one driver update for ELAN Finger Print - Biometric! 🥳 I took the update and since I still had the Device Manager open, I could see that it immediately fixed the issue and showed the fingerprint reader as available. Windows Hello agreed that it was ready and I was able to start adding my fingerprints. After setting it up, I tested it out and it seems to be working perfectly!I'm writing this review on the day I received it, so I can't speak to how it'll do in the long run, but it certainly seems perfect right now.

I have installed this device after trying to find out how to do it properly. Yes, it can be done without instructions, but documentation is an important part of the product and the company should be ashamed of themselves for making no effort.On the back of the package there is a code to scan (honestly-- should we need a phone to find out where to go? Aren't we using this on a computer?). The site address is above it in small writing, but when I tried to go to the stated site it was not there. I searched "benss tech" and found the site.There is no owner's manual or instructions with the device. The "owner's manual" and "instructions" on the website are as clear as mud. There is no downloadable version. If you want to avoid going back to the website every time you have a question, then you must print it off using your browser's print function. Don't expect a good printout and don't expect clear instructions. You will have to figure it out.The downloads page has several downloads. The first one, the driver for Windows 7-8-10, is the one you want to install. If you want the program that goes with the device (optional-- you can do everything without it), then you want to look for "Smart ID Document Encryption" and download that one. The other download, which appears to be an updated driver, does absolutely nothing. I don't know what it is for.If you just want to use it with Windows Hello, then follow the instructions part or search for other instructions for Windows Hello. It is built into Windows 10. That is sufficient to log into Windows and into any program that integrates with Windows Hello (including Roboform).

Installation was easy. I did have to go to their website to get the drivers. I got Windows Hello setup and it's been working great since. Ever so often I have to bounce my finger around to get it to activate but that is few and far between and most often it activates so quickly (and I mean quick), I really don't care that it has a short misfire 1 out of 12 times.I like that I now have options with signing in to my computer and can use a password, pin, face ID, and fingerprint sensor. It works great. We'll done.
