Pairing Food and Wine For Dummies

Great, informative, easy to read book
Great book, great information and is easy to read for anybody without all the fancy terms that you may not understand. But they do bring up fancy words and phrases and explain them too. Really good for the novice through intermediate wine drinker who just wants to pair everyday food with everyday different types of wine without the "snob factor" associated with many wine books.

Good reference
I use this for a quick reference. So far, of the 3 choices for food pairings that I have made based on the books chapters, all three have worked out well. The latest was trying to pair Greek food with non-Greek based wines. Prior to that was looking for non-sake wine with Japanese food. And prior to that, I believe I got a good hint for spicy Chinese food. Pretty much already know what I like with steaks, fish, and fowl dishes so was looking for guidance on difficult pairings.

For work
I bought this for work and it is a great book for people who are beginners at pairing food and wine. It is a very easy read and the way the book is set up it is set up well.

I'd recommend the Petite Sirah with the prime rib
My daughter was very happy I got this for her. She is a server in a steakhouse and feels more confident making recommendations since she received this

Rambles too long
It could use editing of needless verbosity. The book starts with telling you what’s in the book and then it goes blathers on, over and over, telling you what’s in each chapter. I keep thinking to myself, “Stop describing what you’re going to say and just get on with it!”I’m sure it’s a great reference but in to many words.

I don't think it has any major competition in the subject
I agreed to do a talk on pairing wine with food for my local Wine & Food Society - mainly because that gave me the incentive to learn more about the subject.I researched as much material as I could find, but this book was by far the best source of information. In particular it has a very realistic position on what can be achieved rather than the nonsense that is implied by some professionals - either salesmen, wine waiters, writers and some TV presenters. I thought the advice was excellent on some of the things that do not work for many people - some of them being some surprising common mistakes - which practical research confirmed.I don't however suggest this as the sole reference if you want specific advice for specific food where sometimes the specific advice differs from better recommendations by others - as confirmed again by practical research.
