Do not ever, ever, ever, skimp.
I've owned a Shoei for the last 12 years - I believe a 1000 series. A snug, warm, quiet, head-skidder within which I have always felt secure and safe - as safe as one can be on a bike anyway. Its fit and finish were second to none in 2002. Happily, I never "needed" it; only dropped a couple of times. It had two wee tiny plastic vents that eventually broke but remained otherwise unblemished in its service life. Again, I never had occasion to wonder if paying [then $500+ in Alaska] was too much. It seemed at the time that paying a few hundred more for a quality helmet was cheap insurance. I maintain that philosophy today. But for its advancing age, I would not have committed it to a display shelf. Shoei spoils you for anything else. I bought the RF-1200 for exactly the same reasons and because the old hat never once left me feeling unprotected. The same attention to detail, fit, and finish are evident in this newer helmet; benefitted by a decade's worth of engineering, design, and materials improvements. It is lightweight, has improved visibility, tighter screen fit, and removable/cleanable inserts. Alaska has few hot days so I can't comment about the vent system beyond the fact [so far] that it simply won't fog over - a very good thing.Do not ever, ever, ever, skimp on the only piece of safety equipment that stands between you and a life-altering brain injury. Its Shoei or no goie.4-29-15 Update... Regretfully, the complaints about allowing too much wind/road noise in are correct. While it is a nice, snug fitting helmet, its shape and aerodynamics focus more wind noise up under the skirt than would be expected from a high-end hat. My old Shoei [most of 10 years old] is much quieter. Ear-buds for music are almost a necessity. That said, I am very pleased with the helmet -.... realizing that I bought it for something much more important that silence.

Crash Tested at 65 mph...
... And I am still here to talk about it.This helmet is super comfortable. It has that plush feel while still making me feel safe.I thought I'd wear out this helmet and just replace it instead of having to replace it via a crash, but I am glad that I can tell you how this helmet made this crash infinitely better.First, the way I crashed, I landed on my side with my head bouncing off the gravel, grass, and dirt. I couldn't move, but the helmet kept me comfortable even lying in the dirt.Second, after the paramedics arrived, they had to remove the helmet, and they were trying not to move my neck. This helmet made that possible because it has these "emergency" pull-out tabs. They removed my helmet and barely moved my head at all.Third, after examination at the hospital, everybody was astounded that I had no neck injuries given the severity of the crash. The helmet did it's job right to the letter, and you'd better believe that I am buying another Shoei RF-1200 as soon as I get out and buy a new bike.

Shoei GT 1200 is a future in the present ..
High Premium looking helmet( Matt black) , well packaged with manuals for guide on sizing etcEnsure you get the smallest size you can put on with a little effort , for a snug fit .. ‘braking in’ for me was same day , i wore it around the house removing and wearing it back , until it took shape by the 2nd ride ..Because of the snug fit , wind noise were so reduced and negligible with or without the Chin cover , the vents worked as intended with free air flow ..balaclava remained dry .. the anti fog nose cover improved visibility but can’t eliminate fog completely... I guess that’s what the extra lense is for ..

Best all-rounder
I own two other helmets, the SHOEI RF-1200 will satisfy any type of riding you'll do.I feel confidence in its protection for my noggin'. The comfort is the best i've felt, the bottom padding is this super soft & flexible leather. All of the vents on the helmet WORKS unlike some others which have some fake vents for looks only--you will actually feel some airflow inside the helmet. The only con I have for this helmet is the noise. If you're going normal street riding (~25mph), you won't have any problems unless you have sensitive ears. However, anything faster will require you wearing earbuds otherwise you'll get fatigued fast.

Shoei helmet
I only buy Shoei helmets and I got a deal on an open box. This RF1200 is a snug fit but loosens up quickly.I strongly recommend a Ryde Wear helmet buckle. Don'tt go a size larger. Its a real snug fit and was surprised how effective the air vents are. The visor is alittle rigid . I especially like the carved out slots in the helmet interior for speakers. It's alittle noisy in the wind but I don't notice much with the music streaming . I think it's a good helmet but could use with some streamlining.

The helmet doesn’t disappoint
I had the older model and it was wonderful so when it was time to get a new one I got the same model and yes it doesn’t disappoint but I got it in a matte finish this time. It looks cool and fits perfectly. I recommend this helmet and the price is great.

Head And Shoulders Above the Rest
I've ridden motorcycles since 1977. It is fair to say that I have had an opportunity to use a wide variety of safety equipment including helmets of many types. For the past 15 years, 3/4 and so called "half" helmets have been my preferred head gear - that is, until I purchased this Shoei RF-1200! The fit and finish is second to none and the comfort has changed my mind forever regarding full face helmets! I actually prefer using it to riding with no helmet at all. And the "pin lock" system integrated into the face shield means no fogging - ever! All full face helmets are not equal, the Shoei RF-1200 is the most outstanding one I have ever used.

Would buy again
I had a rf 1000 so it was time for an upgrade. Wore a large then and over the years it got looser and after about 8 years it wasn’t very tight, never upgraded or replaced pads though. The rf 1200 is tightish but it fits how it’s supposed to. Quiet, my Sena head set fits well and is pretty clear sound with the helmets noise level even on the highway
