Silverline 342613 Dowel Drill Set 3pce 6, 8 and 10 mm

Do not buy this drill set. It is substandard and badly designed. The 6mm drill broke when I had only cut a few holes using a dowel jig. The depth stops are very difficult to attach to the drill. Their holes are oversized meaning it is impossible to secure them at right angles to the drill and they will not sit square with the jig. It was probably the cause of the break. An allen key in the package would also have been helpful. The picture in the advert is also inaccurate as the depth stops need to be attached to the twist part of the drills not the shanks.

I've not used any others to compare with but these do the trick, after a fashion. They need a small hex allen key to adjust them, annoying if you can't find yours when you need it. The problem I found was to get the drill stops to sit square to the drill bit. No matter what I tried they always sat at an angle. In the end I used them like that and they did the business but being skew-whiff they made the drill vibrate. I was using them in the Wolfcraft Master Dowel jig and it did not affect the end result.

Bought these thinking they were specific pocket hole bits as they were recommended by the same brand pocket hole jig. They aren’t.With a bit of care they can still be used for pocket holes but they are really standard wood bits with a depth guide.

On this occasion Silverline have disappointed with this item. The 10mm bit is thicker in the middle, I bought it to use with a dowel jig but the 10mm bit gets stuck in the jig when it reaches half way down the bit and has damaged my new Dowel master through jamming. The 8 & 6mm bits are fine. The second problem is the stop collars will not tighten on the bit and work loose when drilling. Finally no allen key for the stop collar. Overall I am disappointed. ☹

Overall a good set of drills. I use them for dowels. so depth accuracy is not too critical for me. As stated by others, the stop doesn't always sit straight on the drill. So if you are looking for precision depth something to consider. But overall pleased with them.

Awful. Used the 8mm drill bit on softwood (pine), and it went blunt within about 30mins of use having drilled about 8 holes for dowels.Also the stop grub screw, despite using the correct Allen key, stripped shortly after the drill went blunt meaning the stop was unusable. I certainly wouldn’t recommend this set. Shame really.

In principle this are a good idea.however this gets a thumbs down for me. The circle part thats meant to stay in place so you have accurate drill depth does not stay still. It comes off moves around and to be honest it was a waste of money for me. having to use them as normal drill pieces. Shame though as not badly priced if they worked as they are meant to.

What can you say about a simple set of tools that do exactly;y what they say. They are good because they do exactly what they say they will. Simples.
