Perfect Combination of Style and Functionality
I ordered these boots in the fall of 2015, and I fell in love with them as soon as they arrived. I spent last year in Boston, and after the winter they had in 2014-15 I knew that I needed a heavy-duty set of boots to get me through the harsh conditions. As luck would have it, Boston didn't get much snow this past winter, but when we did have inclimate weather I was more than prepared to maneuver through the snowy streets and across the icy sidewalks. These boots are a perfect combination of style and functionality. They look just like normal fashion boots (wtih leather on the rim of the calf and the foot part of the boot, and suede along the main part of the calf), but because they are manufactured by an actual boot company, they have hard-core, ready-to-climb-Everest treads on the bottom. I was able to walk with confidence through slippery streets thanks to the grip on these boots. And because they're so fashionable looking, I felt completely comfortable wearing them all day as normal indoor footwear. They kept me warm outside but comfortable indoors, and they have excellent arch support. They held up very well through the winter, and they're currently stored away, ready to be worn a few months from now. The boots are extremely well made so I don't expect them to be wearing out anytime soon, but if/when they do I'll most likely get another pair. In fact, I've been very tempted to get them in brown (I currently have them in black).I've purchased a lot of boots over the years, and these are without a doubt my *absolute* favorite. After winter was over I continued wearing them through the cooler days of early spring, since they don't immediately stand out as winter wear.

The boot size is good. I'm glad I ordered the wider width
I wear between a 7 or 7.5 regular width in shoes. After reading most of the reviews including comments that the boot was somewhat narrow, I ordered the 7.5 wide because I knew I would be wearing these mostly in the winter with tights and thicker hosiery. The boot size is good. I'm glad I ordered the wider width. It fits comfortably. I did add foam insoles because I found the boot without the foam to be a bit stiff. With the foam inserts the boots are very comfortable. The sole has a rubber tread which is good for slick conditions. The chocolate color looks as pictured in the photo. The shank is fitted with some elastic binding in the back to provide some stretch and a zipper for ease. I got the boot on sale for $75.00 but would have been happy with the purchase had I paid twice that amount.

My Favorite Boots: A Eulogy
Dear Favorite Boots,I bought you back in the winter of 2014, settling on a 7W for a good fit. You kept my legs warm through the coldest, wettest winter days. You never slipped - your rugged heels could handle anything from city hills to hiking. There was no breaking-in period; you fit like a glove from day one. I got compliments on how good you looked all the time, and more importantly, I felt good wearing you.I did not know a perfect fit until I found you.I did not know true sadness until two weeks ago when your zipper separated entirely.I sought out other boots - my cold legs drove me to it - but it just wasn't the same. These new boots are taking time to break in and be comfortable, and I don't think they'll survive a hike. They look nice, and in time I may love them, but they don't have the same spirit you did. I thought to replace you, but I can't find you in 7W in Glazed Ginger anywhere. I have looked every day for weeks. You lasted two years - your footbeds worn through, your heel already replaced once, countless scuffs on the toe. I can't bear to throw you away even though I can't even wear you around the house. I mourn through feet that ache at the end of the day in stiff new leather. One day I will awaken from the haze. It will be time to let you go, and in true Marie Kondo style, I will bow and sincerely thank you for your service. You were the best, and you will be sorely missed./pours one out for my boots

Great quality, but they look like leather galoshes on me
I wanted a leather walking boot that I could wear in the snow and then at work. I work in an environment where dark jeans with nice boots under a big professional top is the winter standard. I like to not have to cart heavy boots in my mile+ walk to work to change into on snowy and icy days. And, I wanted a real leather boot, so my feet can breathe. Apparently I'm asking for the moon this year.Pros:-lug soles look good for all weather conditions and keep the leather well off the pavement-don't sag AT ALL, will stand upright all on their own and not wrinkle-leather and suede look beautiful- top quality and very durable- should last years and years-Cons:-fit like rainboots made of leather on me-too narrow in the toe box, wide in the calf (for me)Fit:Shoe-I usually wear a roomy 9.5, I like for my feet to have plenty of room to wiggle in a winter boot. I got the 9.5 c/d, marked W on the box, instead of the narrower a/b. The length of the shoe is fine, but they feel quite narrow in the toe area to me. I don't usually buy special wide shoes, but my outside toes are fully immobilized in these. Maybe the boots will stretch, but there's no certainty that they will because the leather on the shoe part is very thick and sturdy- it would take some serious time to soften these up. The sturdiness would be very appealing if the fit were perfect. I would be tempted to try a 10, but I don't know if extra length will magically fix the width issue. If you're concerned your foot might be too wide, I would measure. I might be an E, I think I measured the way as a kid at least.Calf- The wide width seems to apply to the calf section which is pretty gappy on me. Not terrible pirate boots huge, but they just seem to look less finished and professional with the noticeably different widths of my leg and the boot. My calves are about 13.5 inches I think.Sigh, these looked so perfect in the box, it's just the fit is all wrong on me.

Lovely boots
Really love these boots, good quality and value for money. I ordered size 7, they are a bit narrow for my feet and so feel tight over a day wearing them.

Slightly smaller fitting than the last but nice quality
I have had these boots in the past and loved them, I replaced them as the stud fastening on the side broke. I note they no longer have this fastening so I wonder if it has been a common problem. The boots look great but do feel quite narrow, I think they will give a little though so am persevering with them.
