Al;pha and Omega of Torches
I purchased this completely on a whim.I'd owned a Fenix torch in the past, a TK40 back in 2012. It was perfectly good with a nice bright beam but I found it lacking in a few areas. Firstly the actual body felt (despite all the talk about aircraft grade aluminium and Type III Hard Anodising) a little fragile, not quite thick enough and therefore I wasn't entirely confident in its survivability if I dropped it. Secondly the beam whilst bright was a dirty green/grey in appearance and whilst not affecting the operability kind of spoiled it for me.Four years have passed since than and I had little doubt Fenix had also moved on. So despite the fact I already had a 500+ lumen Nextorch I decided to go for this Fenix RC20.On arrival it was well packaged in a hard plastic case which was nicely finished. It came with a battery, charger, strap and a case as well as instructions. The actual charger can be run either off the mains pr off a USB socket so charging shouldn't be a problem. One really big improvement over the older TK40 I owned was the immediate sense of improved durability. There was not a hint of the barrel not 'being up to the job' The unit also has two switches on the back of the torch which again felt nice and sturdy. This also goes for the supplied charging unit which holds the torch securely. Overall Fenix have improved considerably in this area. And Fenix have added a battery status indicator which gives a good idea of remaining battery life. The unit also has a crenelated front end-enough to inflict a wound on a would-be attacker as a last resort self defence actionIn practice the operation is nothing short of AMAZING. A bright, virtually perfectly circular and powerful beam is produced. There are five different settings, Low, Medium,High and Turbo all of which can be easily selected. setting.. Battery life is pretty much as described and as the battery pack is a Lithium Ion cell, there is virtually zero self discharge and 'memory' (the curse of my MagCharger torches since 1993!) effect. And the 'dirty green/grey' colour cast has now gone, the resulting beam being almost a pure white.Overall, this torch has an awful lot going for it to the point that it can replace four other torches in my collection. If there was any foibles it would be that the 1000 Lumen spec is a little optimistic, if my MagCharger LED (643 Lumens) and my Nextorch (550 Lumens) is anything to go by, the Turbo beam setting in practice is only a little brighter in effect. Goes to prove twice the lumens does NOT equal twice the beam distance. Even so, this is an awesome piece of kit.Probably the first and last torch we will ever need.

Battery worked for 2 charge cycles and now does not work at all. Torch brain does not even see the battery as there is no continuity!!!
