Q: Does the time lapse function work? Can i install the software in windows 10? How are the files encoded?

yes it has a timer function for both photo and video. I intstalled the software on my computer using Windows 10, worked great.

Q: Is there any way to adjust the magnification other than physically maneuvering the microscope?

I don't think one can adjust the magnification at all (even by manual adjustment). There's a single optical element, so the only adjustable parameters are position and course/fine focus, which involve manually moving the base or the scope.

Q: Illumination. Would it be possible to bottom light samples with this? Is the focal plan flexible enough to allow a lighted stage to be slid below?

Not sure, but microscopes do that so perhaps. I added a ring light to improve illumination from above. I may try your idea. Otherwise I've gotten better photos and videos.

Q: I lost the cables. What is type of port is the hdmi port?

You lost the cables?? Why are you asking about the port? Didn't you ever hook it up? HDMI cables are HDMI cables. C'mon man.
