How do I fix them on no instrutions or drawings

The longer pivot fits on to the seat and the short pivot on to the lid. They are fitted as per the image ie left and right looking down onto the seat with the hinge to the rear

No this tool would not be suitable for an M10 nut, max nut size would be M5

It just pushed over the wing nut if you have the wing nut type 
