Great Addition to Home Entertainment Center
I bought this so that I could watch TV in two additional rooms using a Roku. It works great, saving me the cost of having to buy a Roku for each room. When reading the reviews, several people say that it comes on, then cuts off. They are not hooking it up correctly! This unit is made to cut off automatically if no signal is detected in video 1, so unless you have something hooked up to it, it will turn off. Also, the video outputs in the back are in reverse order from the front. The button for video 1 is the first one on the left, but the output on the backside is the last one from the right (looking from the front).I've had this RF modulator for 2 months and have not had any problem.

Power Issue
I bought this recently to serve as a simpler and less expensive alternative to a video-switching reciever/AMP. Having read ALL of the reviews, I anticipated problems with the power to the unit. The problem is this: When the unit does not sense a video feed from the selected input, it turns itself off. Unfortunately, the unit interprets the time between scenes on a DVD, or the time period it takes to display the catagories on Jeopardy on satellite TV, as 'no video input' and shuts itself down, yielding snow screen until the next scene begins. I'm not sure what the work-around for this might be. I tried hooking up an antenna for constant RF, but that has no impact upon the separate inputs. Maybe I'll call RCA later. However, I think it is working as it is supposed (designed) to work, and do not fault the manufacturer. It was designed to turn itself off when no video is detected from the selected input. The problem is what constitutes 'no video.' Is it a change in pixelation? Obviously, there is video available to view, but the unit doesn't seem to think it is 'video enough' to keep the unit powered up. Why does it power-down at the beginning of Jeopardy, but not when I'm just looking at the programming guide? If you think you might have an answer, feel free to comment...7/25/13 update. So, I contacted RCA customer service via their webpage, explaining the aforementioned symptoms, and received an immediate response from 'Ed,' instructing me to email a copy of the receipt and they would replace the unit. The replacement unit senses all phases of video input and remains powered-up. Additionally, this unit seems to have remedied the out-of-sync sound between the TV speakers and the remote stereo, a problem that I thought was just, well, something to be expected anytime there were two different amplification systems providing the sound. So I increased the rating from a 4 to a 5.

Don't Do It... There is a better alternative. Also, Amazon is great!
.RCA Switch to RF Converter (RF Modulator)Five Inputs \ One Output:(1) RG6 input & (4) RCA Audio\Video inputs \ (1) RG6 outputALL IN ONE UNIT!Who wouldn't want that!Unfortunately the first unit would not power up.Amazon quickly replaced it.The second unit worked, however, here is the problem:The RCA CRF940 RF Modulator and Video Switcher with Gold-Plated Connectors SOUNDS LIFELESS.Even when this unit works - the sound quality is just not there.Out of desperation to find quality sound for an instillation; I purchased an RF Modulator from Radio Shack. It worked great.I purchased a separate RCA Switch from Radio Shack. It worked great.Deep BassFull MidrangeCrisp HighsVery, very clear picture.Down side: the Radio Shack units cost $59.98 combined while the RCA RF Modulator combination RCA Switch cost only $25.14We are using the RF Modulator to SYNCRONIZE DVDs and Audio Visual on Stereos and Monitors throughout our Office Building using RG6 cable. For Stereo Reception from the RG6 we are having great results with Sabrent Stand Alone TV Tuner Box available from Amazon.Sabrent Stand Alone TV Tuner Box with Picture in Picture for TV/CRT/TFT and Plasma Monitor/Projectors (NTSC) ANALOG Only (TV-LCDHR)I am very happy that I first went to Amazon.I wouldn't have found the Sabrent Tuner if I didn't.Amazon has always been a pleasant experience.

NEEDS BETTER INSTRUCTIONS! (LED power indicator goes off)
Initially, I had the same problem described by others of it turning itself off after a second (this is because the antenna function apparently needs no external power, and that is what it defaults to). I exchanged the first one (thanks Amazon, for the super easy return/exchange system! p.s Prime is awesome for the shipping times). After searching other reviews, I found the problem - the unit auto powers off if a valid video signal is not detected and switches to the RF/Ant setting. With no video signal present at Input 1, and switching to it, the unit powers off. It powers back on when switching to an input that is receiving a signal. This is briefly covered in Step 4. on page 2 (back page), but it mentions nothing of the Power LED turning off. I can now see why so many people believe the unit is malfunctioning. Note to manufacturer: Do NOT turn off the power LED!I'll echo it again - This is a very easy to use device and works fine, once one understands how it functions. If only it had better instructions regarding the signal input and power LED!
