A good "temporary" toilet seat for later-stages of rehabilitation.
This review is for the Yunga Tart portable toilet seat. I purchased this prior to having a total hip replacement in May 2015. I also purchased this knowing that it would not be my primary raised toilet seat for my recovery. For my primary seat - which I installed in our master bath at home - I purchased a " Drive Medical Raised Toilet Seat Elongated with Removable Arms Sold by: Amazon.com LLC".The Yunga was bought to be my "traveling/office/secondary" seat. It is a good seat, but this accolade requires some explanation and a caveat. (For reference, I am a male, six feet one inch tall, and I weigh one-ninety and am an athletic lean build.)The seat height is a generous five inches, and really raises a normal toilet seat up. With my long legs, I appreciate this height. The seat is designed to fit both elongated oval toilets, and standard round toilets. The pictures on Amazon are not helpful in showing the total seat and how the seat is constructed underneath, but it fits nicely into virtually any toilet, and has rubber pads on the bottom to prevent slipping or moving. The seat feels solid when you are sitting on it and has never moved of wobbled under me, on several toilets. It is a nice firm plastic. It cleans up nicely, even thought the material feels a bit porous (it's not). The material is very smooth/slippery, as some commenters have noticed. Also, the opening is wide, but the seat is also very thick - it is not a 100% perfect "feel" when on it - but again, for the temporary nature of the seat - it does the job nicely.I will make a caveat of this seat, based upon other reviews of the "one star" variety. This seat (like probably most non-attached seats) is not meant to act as your hand-holds when you are sitting, and take your entire weight on one side as you try to grip the seat and sit on it, or stand up. You will need to be able to sit & stand on your own or use a handicapped stall that has hand holds that you can use to help you down onto the seat. I would not try to use the seat as my hand-holds while sitting or standing - there is always the chance the seat will tip over or you'll lose your balance and fall. If you can't sit without using the seat as your hand-holds - then this isn't the seat for you.I knew this when I purchased it - that I would need to be able to sit without relying on using the seat as a hand-hold. And knowing that - it has worked well for me ever since.Last note - this is not the most comfortable seat, and doesn't perfectly match the feel of regular toilets. Again, I figured as much when I bought it. My opinion - this is a "temporary" toilet seat to be used during later stages of rehabilitation if you're traveling or away from your home toilet. And for that specific use - it does its job well.

Yunga Tart Raised Toilet Seat
Hmmm. There were no instructions that came with the seat. I guess it's supposed to be fairly idiot-proof. Count on me to find a new way to use it....I ordered this seat because I had been told to get one prior to a hip resection. I, of course, wait to the last minute to order the thing and end up sweatin' and worrying, "Is it going to get here in time?!?" Because the dealer was soooo on the ball, happily I received it (or should I say my hubby did?) by D-Day (or should I say S-Day, for surgery?). Instead of waiting weeks, we got it within DAYS.When I got home, I plunked it down on the toilet seat (not the lid). I, being short of legs (5 ft 7in, but built like a Dachsund) had some fretting trying to get the angle right, and w/some small slippage of the seat, side to side (like it's a "one size fits all" toilets, right?!) because of the rounding of the regular toilet seat it was on. It took my beloved, taking it off to do his thang, to accidentally put it back on the regular toilet with the seat UP. (Men, gotta love 'em; can't leave 'em.) Of course, I go bumping around in the dark, sit down, and VOILA!!!...no slippage, it fit perfectly!...no more shimmy in the seat, and, what I suspect is what the original designers had in mind for it's use... a nice flat toilet base. How much new can you say about toilet seat risers? For those who need more specifics, it has a smooth, yet nubby texture because it's plastic. There is the front and back cutouts for ease of personal hygiene. There is also a soft, rounded tapering of the seat itself, probably for your derriere's comfort, and also possibly for drainage of accidental drippage of any kind. It's about 4 3/4" tall at it's sides; at the back, about 4" because of the curving of the seat, and about 3 1/4" at the front because of the front cutout. (I have to say "about" because my laptop doesn't have a tilde, and I don't want anybody gettin' mad or suing because of my astigmatism.)If you flip it over, there are 4 black, rubbery/nubby pads on the under sides of the seat (10:30, 1:30, 4, and 6 o'clock positions, (if looking at the underside, point up) which keep the plastic from sliding on the enamel of your toilet. There are also two indentations (about 1 1/2" wide x 5" long, 1 1/4" deep) at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions for the ease of getting your hands under the Yunga seat to lift/clean it and the toilet. The egg-shaped hole in the center is 9 1/2" long x 7 1/2" wide (internal diameter). there is the ring that extends down from it (into the toilet) that is 1" deep. The external diameter of this ring (more crucial because it has to fit into your toilet) is 11 1/4" long x 9 1/4" wide. (I suspect that this may fit everything in the US, except maybe disaster bucket-type loos. This will hopefully give you more info than I found on the dealer's site.) It is marked, "Made in USA," AND has a recycling HDPE #2 plastics logo, so it's recyclable as well!It is fairly easily cleaned with Comet--forget to rinse or you'll have a green, shiny hiney!P. S. If you have a hip resection, they WILL FORGET to advise you that if you wear ladies panties or men's briefs (Hey, I ain't pointin' fingers at NO-body!), the elastic will 'cut' at your incision line--get a pair of boxers! (Again, hey, you're on Amazon; it's easy to order!)(...And "NO," I don't work for them, any boxer sellers, or even Tunga.) Best of Luck in your toileting futures!!!

Safe and secure seat (for women)
Sits on my elongated toilet perfectly and securely. You must put it on the rim and not on top of the existing seat (otherwise it will slide right off, (to the guy who posted it shoot out from under his grandmother, they had to have it on top of the existing seat!)). This seat is secure sitting on the rim, i've sat on it from the side, it can wobble a little, but it doesn't slid out from under me.The only draw back I have is, this is a very high raised seat. If you have a 17" toilet (from the floor up) it may make it too high if you are short. I am 5'8" (long legs) and we have a 17" toilet, it is almost too high for me. .My husband had hip surgery too and he could not use it for that reason. He is 5'10" with short legs and a long body and it was too high for him to sit on. This is by no means a defect in the product it was something I did not take into consideration when buyingThe opening into the toilet is somewhat small, and it is not ideal for men to sit on, again my husband could not use it when he had his hip surgery. Which I do consider those to be manufacturing issues.
