What are the measurements of the non-stick area?

Probably 6x6 non-stick part. I purchased these after my appendix surgery in March 2015 the sticky part won't stay. I had to keep my stitches and staples dry during a shower but these didn't work. I returned them for a refund with no problem. My parents went and purchased some Walgreens pads similar to these that worked much better. Sorry I wouldn't recommend these unless you use tape also to keep them in place.

what is the material used?

They seem to be a thin flexible sheet of plastic with extremely waterproof seal around them. I have used the large one to cover a hemodialysis catheter on the chest and a peritoneal dialysis catheter on the abdomen. It keeps the area totally dry. You can’t find this size of waterproof covering at Walmart or the pharmacies. The price is very reasonable on Amazon.

Does the chest have to be shaved or will it work on a chest with hair?

We highly recommend using Shower Shield on shaved or hair free skin. If there is hair present the product will stick but depending on how much hair this can cause leaks. Every hair allows a path for water to get through the adhesive border.

These shower shields work great. I also put waterproof tape around the edges for extra protection because my husband cannot get his dialysis port wet.

How to Apply and have stay in place.

Make sure you clean area to be applied with alcohol, let dry, then clean with alcohol a second time. Once dried for second time, then cover. Will last and seal for average shower. If you only clean area with alcohol once, or don't let dry, bandage WILL fall off.
