VIOFO A229 Pro 4K 3CH Dash Cam HDR for Front & Rear & Inside with STARVIS 2

We currently have three of the Dash Cam - two for each of our vehicles and one for the RV. They work great. In the RV we put the three-channel. We used it for accidents but also to record scenery while traveling. Quality on the video is great. Easy to install. Night vision is very good.

After a lot of research, I decided on the VIOFO A229 Pro, and I'm glad I did. The video quality is excellent, day and night, and everything about it feels well built. This is one of those products that gives you confidence it will be there if you ever need the footage. One thing I really appreciated is that VIOFO includes a clear plastic film that goes between the windshield and the adhesive mount. I actually cut mine into smaller pieces so I could remove or reposition the camera later without dealing with adhesive directly on the glass. It worked perfectly. If you're buying this camera, I highly recommend getting the hardwire kit so you can take advantage of parking mode. It is absolutely worth it. I would also suggest spending a few dollars on a basic multimeter before you install it. Finding the correct fuse slots is much easier, and you'll know you're wiring everything correctly instead of guessing. Take your time with the installation, hide the wires neatly, and do it right the first time. It may seem intimidating if you've never installed a dash cam before, but it is easier than it looks. The end result is well worth the effort, and you'll end up with a clean, factory looking installation and an outstanding dash cam that you'll probably forget is even there until you need it.

After extensive research comparing various dashcam models on the market, I determined that VIOFO offers the best overall value. While the newer A329 Pro has been released in 2026, the A229 Plus remains an excellent choice and is still highly competitive. Upgrade Considerations: The primary difference between the A229 Plus and the A329 Pro is the frame rate (FPS). Unless you specifically need the higher FPS capability and have the budget for it, upgrading from the A229 Plus is not necessary. This model continues to deliver exceptional performance in 2026. Storage Recommendation: I highly recommend pairing this camera with an industrial-grade SSD (sold separately) for optimal reliability and longevity. Installation Options: The camera supports multiple installation methods, including hardwiring and ACC installation, both of which work seamlessly. If you choose the hardwire option, I strongly recommend purchasing the official VIOFO hardwire kit, as it includes a voltage sensor that protects your vehicle's battery by automatically shutting off the camera when it reaches your preset voltage threshold. Installation Experience: In my 2019 Toyota Corolla, the camera mounts discreetly and the installation process was straightforward. App and Connectivity: The loop recording feature is convenient, minimizing the need to frequently remove the SSD. However, the app connectivity has limitations. Since it uses Wi-Fi, you must disable CarPlay in your settings to connect to the camera. Additionally, video quality is compressed when viewed through the app, so I only recommend using it for adjusting camera settings if you find the on-camera controls difficult to navigate. Final Verdict: This is an exceptional product that delivers outstanding value. I plan to continue using VIOFO dashcams and will upgrade only when a significantly improved model is released.

I am amending my original 2-star review (below). After following the manufacturer's recommendation to use the included 12V to USB charge adapter, the camera works fine and has had no further issues shutting off suddenly. I had originally just plugged the USB end of the charge cable into a USB port on the car. I mean, I get it, but I think the issue should be corrected to work with any USB charger port. That said, the company took it upon themselves to contact me after my original 2-star review to make it right, so I give them the full five stars! >>> Original Review <<< First, my reason for buying this camera was to replace an older one from a different brand, when I noticed I was unable to get some of the video files to open for viewing. I have three of these identical cameras, and I was hoping to find a more reliable replacement, since I discovered the issue was happening with all three cameras! About half of the video files were corrupt and would not open on any platform. I don't want to worry whether or not video is being recorded and that it's going to be usable if needed. This one is great because you can turn on the wireless and share live or recorded video instantly, and share it with others. It also beeps constantly whenever the recording is not on for whatever reason. At least, that's the way it's supposed to work ... So far, after three days, the camera will shut itself off with no warning, as if I pulled the plug, but I did not. It has done this about five times. I am able to just turn the camera back on from the front panel, or turn off the car, and back on, and the camera would restart. Also, it has stopped recording suddenly and said the SD card needed to be reformatted. After obliging, it recorded fine again, after I wiped out everything else! Note the card was known-good and formatted by the camera before first use. Anyway, it's looking like I will need to return this one and maybe try another one? Maybe I just got a bad unit. I'll update this post with further experience. It's a dang shame it has all the features I want, but it's apparently not very RELIABLE.

I searched up many dash cams for the "one". This probably the best one, IMO. I'll say this now, this is my first time owning a dash cam in general. Next I had this product for over 5 months now. I'll give a few examples of the good and few bad things about this product over the time I had it. This is from my own personal experience. U can see other reviews in YouTube there are many people who reviewed this amazing product The Pros 1. I bought it was for the great picture quality. It capture most things easily from the outside world pretty easily.From rear,front and inside, the only time I ever had a problem is in dark areas where there are few street light. But if u have a normal or bright head u can easily overcome this problem. The main reason was it can capture car plates,and faces if you ever have an accident. 2. It's very simple to install. All u need to do is figure out where to put it. If u mess up they give u 2 sticky tapes for each of the front, rear and interior Just in case u mess up like I did 😔😔😔. The small problem is the cables that come with it are long. If u don't have a big car you'll have to do some cable management, but it's not a huge issue. 3.the App connectivity is fast cuz it has it own wifi to download recorded videos from the camera to your phone. Depending on the 5 or 10 minute recoding loop videos it can take a few minutes to download.Dashcam is very simple for a slow guy like me to understand. There is a slight learning curve.You can choose to have Night vision on automatic when there is low light, adjust camera quality There are YouTube videos to help u out if you ever need help. 4. There are many kinds of accessories on the Viofo websites. For example cameras, Cables, SD cards for more recorded videos. The Cons 1.The only thing is that it doesn't come with a SD card right out of the box. When I bought it it was $450. I thought it will come with it. I paid $450 for it and it doesn't come with a small SD card like for real man. If you use but won't record anything which sucks. Im not sure if most or any dash cams come with SD cards. Make sure u guys plan ahead to buy the dash cam. In Amazon they have the Viofo brand SD cards which is a good thing. The one I bought was 512gb for $96. 2. To see recorded videos u have on the dash cam, it has to be on at all times and use the wifi to see on your phone. Which also means u have to be close to it. Also when checking the setting it will stop recording this bad if your driving it means u won't record when u fixing something in the app. In my opinion this is one of the best Dash cams u can own. Very good Value for money. If you low on cash u can have 299 with 2 channels, the front and the rear camera only. its cheaper for the same great picture quality. That a good deal. That's all ✌️ ✌️

I replaced my older dash cam with this one because I read good things about the STARVIS 2 Sensors. My older dash cam didn't perform so well in low light and so far I am impressed by the video quality of the Viofo A229. I also liked the fact that this kit came with the CPL filter for the front camera. I wish there was an option to get a shorter interior camera cable. The cable is just too long especially since I am mounting the interior camera just about 7 inches away from the main unit. Luckily I had enough room in the housing behind my rear view mirror to store the extra cable slack. I opted for the hard wire kit to enable parking modes. The kit was straight forward and easy to install as my car had plenty of extra unused fuse slots that provided the constant power and accessory power that was needed. The only issue I had was that the power cable has a ferrite core that is located a few inches away from where it connects to the dash cam. The thickness of the ferrite core makes the cable hard to tuck into the car's headliner without making it bulge. It's a minor issue for me but hopefully your car has more room in the headliner to tuck this cable in. I did have a problem with the GPS module not not picking up any satellite signals. I submitted a ticket on Viofo's Support Center and got a response in a short time. I verified GPS settings were turned on and even tested the unit outside of the car to make sure the windshield wasn't blocking satellite signals. Everything was set up correctly so Viofo shipped me a new GPS module to test. I received the new GPS module within 2 weeks and installed it right away. The replacement GPS module worked and the dash cam immediately picked up satellite signals. Everything is now working! I would like to thank Annie S. from the Viofo Support team for her prompt responses and for the hassle free process of getting a replacement GPS module. Overall, I love this dash cam and I'm impressed by the quality of the STARVIS 2 sensors. Viofo support was also great! I am hoping this dash cam will last a long time without any issues.

Fairly disappointing overall. The shape of the device is such that the screen on the camera itself is very difficult to view when mounted to most windshields. There is no adjustability in the mounting angle at all. I had to print myself a 20 degree wedge to get the angle viewable. Also, the screen itself will turnoff after a max of 3 minutes with the most recent firmware. I reached out to Viofo and confirmed that this is intentional due to overheating issues with the 4k capable models. This sounds like a hardware/design problem that they are unwilling to solve and decided it was easier to force the screen off than to engineer around. So not only can you not see the screen in many installations, but it will turn itself off (screensaver) and you cant prevent it. Camera doesn't really function at all without a micro sd and even at 300+$ it doesn't even come with a small 32 gb one or anything, so unusable if you don't have one around or order one with it. The app is very poorly reviewed on the app store (2.8 stars) with over 1k reviews. Very inconsistent connection to download video, so I had to eventually resort to manually removing the sd card to view the videos. They were ok. Not in my opinion significantly better than the other camera I have that was less than half the cost. Would not recommend, or buy again. Think these reviews must be bots or sponsored or something. I will likely return it if I still get no useful reply from Viofo customer service. Stay sharp out there.

This was a great camera system to add to my teenage son’s new car! He knows that he is being monitored so that helps cut down on the usual stupid decisions that teens make! I had it professionally installed so it looks great without cables visible and works even when the car is off. I loved it so much, I bought a second one and had it installed in my car as well. Nice tool to have if ever involved in a crash or just to capture an unexpected incident.

اشتريت منها طقمين الي تجي ب٣ كامرات ومركبها على سيارتين. جدا ممتازة. دقة عالية فوق ما تتصور وتتحمل حرارة الشمس. واجهتني مشكلة في التركيب وكلمت الدعم تبعهم من خلال موقعهم ردو علي برد مفصل خلال اقل من ١٢ ساعة. للتنبيه عشان ما تحصل لك نفس المشكلة الي واجهتني. الكامرة الي فيها ٤ ليدات حول العدسة هي الداخلية والي بدون ليدات هي الخلفية. والأمامية واضحة هي الي فيها شاشة. راح تعجبك كثير وما راح تندم عليها ابدا وتستاهل كل ريال تدفعه فيها.

Updated review: I contacted the company about the issues of the dashcam and here is my feedback about it. Response time: With in hours of contacting Viofo, someone (Lisa) reached out to me. Attention to detail: Lisa listened to all the issues and provided proper guidance and information on the product. Patience and professionalism: I have to say and cannot put enough words to the customer service of the company. Lisa listened and provided answer to every single question and provide solution to every single problem. I have encountered very less someone like Lisa and would give the highest possible rating to company and to her personally. Resolution: 1- I wanted the screen to stay on all the time, done. 2- Firmware update was done with downloading firmware on the memory card but it was a custom firmware. 3- Wifi issue was resolved as firmware was updated. 4- Stopped recording issue was solved by changing micro sd card. Overall thoughts: The way Viofo stood behind their product and are there to provide proper and reliable customer satisfaction then there is no better product than this. I ended up keeping the product and would like to highly recommend this based on my own experience with Viofo. BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION EVER. I am changing my review to 5 stars after the experience. ———————————————————————— Original review: I purchased this dashcam after hearing a lot of hype on YouTube. Video quality is good but extremely unreliable. I installed this dashcam about a couple of weeks ago and last night had an unfortunate incident. I was so confident that I have video proof and won’t be in any trouble. To my surprise it didn’t record at all for the whole trip. I heard a YouTuber in a review that this dashcam tells you if it is not recording and I was excited about that feature but I guess it’s just false advertising. There was no notification at all. Also, what is the point of having the screen if it’s not going to stay on. It’s just dead screen all the time. Since I installed the camera, it’s been recording fine but when it actually needed to do job, forget it. Firmware: if firmware update (1.2) is not available to install, please stop showing the message on the app. Wifi connection: Really really bad. After downloading each video, it just goes back to live view screen and start recording. App: I have been using iPhone app and it’s so laggy and feel like it was made for 2010 phones. Overall: So frustrated that I just want to send it back right now.

Good product but very costly

This is Wirth every dollar and pays for itself. The quality for front, rear, and cabin are clear. The app is very easy to use and voice recognition features are excellent The hard wiring is also easy to follow with the guise. You can also watch videos for tutorials or go to a shop to have it installed. For my next vehicle, I will definitely return to Viofo for my dash cam needs
