Why Nobody Wants to Be Around Christians Anymore: And How 4 Acts of Love Will Make Your Faith Magnetic

An easy read that will make the typical evangelical uneasy
An easy read that will make the typical evangelical uneasy. I get the feeling that the Schultz's have chosen to write provocatively in order to grab the attention of the believer who is reading. How else do you get people engaged in a call to "love others"? No topic will cause more glassy stares in the church than the standard, "love God, love others". So, they push to the outer limits of love in order to get people thinking about just what the Great Commandment to "...love our neighbors as ourselves" might look like when taken to a Jesus-like extreme. Anyone who gives this book a chance will find it practical, passionate, and a bit frustrating at times. But every good book should be!

Inspiring and engaging book filled with practical and powerful ideas for re-connecting the word "Christian" with God's Love
Thom & Joani Schultz have an astounding ability to create loving bridges between Christians and other people. They aren't afraid of the "secular culture" around them, and they make a courageous effort to be humble and teachable. They genuinely work hard to love everyone and to demonstrate that love through the 4 ACTS OF LOVE that are detailed in this wonderful book (RADICAL HOSPITALITY, FEARLESS CONVERSATION, GENUINE HUMILITY AND DIVINE ANTICIPATION). They talk like real people - here is an example; "DIVINE ANTICIPATION isn't a freaky, weird way to live. It's actually quite natural..." Over and over and over again they emphasis LOVE as the connection. I have often worried that Christians are in such a hurry to convert "unbelievers" that they forget that these are actual people they are talking to. We can't pretend to care about others and "fake listen" to them in order to use some clever witnessing technique to prime them for a conversion conversation. We have to find that heart to heart connection and really love them - just the way they are.

Helpful in processing on the Journey!
As I realize just how much I have been caught in the trappings of religion, this book is helping me move forward! It is filled with practical insights from the Shultz's own faith journey. I appreciate the obvious love, light and life they share in the book. I am intrigued by the TreeLife Cafes of which they write. I hope to attend a meeting in one soon to see how they work! The stories that are shared in the book moved me to tears! It imparts hope for our world! So glad that this book is required reading for my seminary class on grace! The book is all about living gracefully!

A Necessary Book!
It's hard to have any quibbles regarding the content of this book without being nitpicky really. Our Bible Study had a couple people who wanted to twist the meaning of certain things the author said, or completely dismissed the title when the facts and data are accurate. The book isn't perfect, no book is, but it is very convicting and addresses things that individual Christians should confront within themselves to better serve the Kingdom.

I highly recommend this book to anyone
I highly recommend this book to anyone, Christian or not, but especially people who believe they are Christians. I think it was CS Lewis who said, 'It not that Christianity has been tried and found wanting, but that it has seldom been tried.' These authors seem to be really trying it, and it is bearing good fruit.

The name is wonderfully misleading
This book is not just a why no one wants to be around Christians it's a how to be Jesus in an ever changing world. Both practical & spiritually leading, I definitely have much to incorporate in my personal journey to see all come to know the kind of love that I know/ love is a person and He's Jesus Christ.

The best part is it not only points out the areas ...
It is informative and enlightening. There are many truths that need to be considered. The best part is it not only points out the areas of needed attention but gives a clear concise way of beginning healing and change in those areas. I definitely recommend this book to all but especially those who are willing to take an honest look at themselves and have a desire to change for the better.

Focusing on how to reach out to others
This is a book on actions and thoughts you can consider in reaching out to people who need an encouraging word. It is digging deep into your own thoughts as to what you should be actively doing to help people you might not know well. This is a book to widen your outlook into our world as it is today.May these words help you as you read to see the world in a very different way.

Pride before fall..
YES, I left the church because of too many bad ,rude and patronising christians giving me the 'Im better than you signals" (sigh) and doubtful that I ever return..however I still practise my faith and this book encouraged me to be more like Jesus and spend time with people that need to know him instead of becoming a judgemental Pharisee christian (which seems to have become very popular option). So Now I am an organic barefoot christian who have gone back to the basics without the hoo haa....AMEN
