I've used a variety of dash cams in the past. Wolfbox, Kingslim, no name brands, and finally decided to pull the trigger to purchase a more expensive dash cam for our family car. I couldn't afford the $400 units going 4k, but this 2k front and rear at $200 price point seemed like a huge step up from what I was buying before.. Out the box, the quality of this dash cam is definitely next level compared to other cheaper cameras I've used in the past. The product is sturdy, placement of cable inputs, micro SD slots, and the cables themselves are all thoughtfully laid out, high quality, and clearly labeled. After mounting, the main camera unit is also removable by sliding out, without having to unmount the car. Not sure if this makes sense, but it goes along the lines mentioned how it's well thought out. Software is fast, settings easily adjust based on preferences, download speed with the 5G wifi is quick. Wonderful picture quality for me. Picks up both daytime and night time fine. Able to capture plate numbers on vehicles without any issues. Well worth the price. Will be getting this exact 3-channel cam for our other cars and will also be recommending this to friends/family if they are in need of dash cam suggestions.

Reliable dash cam, good image quality and voice-control works like a charm. I've bought my first viofo a229 plus for my car last year. I've had reliable quality videos and photos of it at the time. Parking recording was the name reason I opted to upgrade from my previous 70mai dashcam. Low bitrate recording is helpful for my case at it continuously records during park mode as opposed to g-sensor activation. I needed another dash cam since I swapped car with my dad's and I was reluctant to go to the trouble of uninstalling the one installed in my car, hence I ordered another one. Some of my gripes about this is it's selective of the microsd. Older version of samsung endurance pro works but had to upgrade to viofo's own microsd card since the newer version of samsung is laggy. Another thing is that my new viofo a229 plus is stuttering when I use the live view camera on the app, unlike before where it was transmitting the video in real-time smoothly. I did not have any problems connecting to its wifi network. They should also make the interior camera cable a right-angled usb-c connection for better cable management. Overall, it's a worth it camera, despite cheaper alternatives. Hopefully it can last as long, or longer, than my previous 70mai dash cam

Works pretty good! Takes very clear pictures and videos. Every once in a while when I’m driving, the unit will snap a picture without being prompted to. Not sure why does that, doesn’t really bother me, nor does it affect the rest of the videos. It is what it is! It’s a must have for driving on these crazy roads we have these days!

Item is great quaility value for money

This is my fifth Dashcam, second Viofo. The first Viofo I got is in my bus, which I rarely ever drive, and I've only hooked up the main unit. So, not a fair review on that one, but I liked the quality of the unit enough to go Viofo on the car I just bought. The hardware quality is definitely above average, and so is the software/App. The good: - Hardware is good quality. - HK4 hardwire kit is available for a reasonable price - The stock power adapter has a second USB output, so if you don't use the HK4, you can still recharge your phone while the dashcam is plugged into your power outlet. - Packaging is good. - I do like the form factor of the base unit and remote cameras. - A set of extra double sided sticky pads is provided. Getting the factory applied one off is no joke, so try to get it right the first time. I found a razor blade holder with a sharp blade was best to kind of pick at the corners and roll the factory applied sticky pad off, then clean the surface, then apply the white paper side of the extra provided pad to the camera. Red tape side goes on the glass. - The voice activated functions respond IMMEDIATELY, and are not that sensitive to tone or changes in speech during a command. By the time you finish saying "take a picture," your R sound will be paired with a little chirp to let you know it happened, immediately. Very impressive. Other units I've used are laggy, even to button presses. - The cables come with 90-degree heads on one end of them, for tidy routing at the head unit. VERY important detail. Would be better to have 90-degree at both ends, but still, I like it. - GPS unit is built into the head unit. On my Rexing, the hardwire kit eliminates the GPS sensor. Viofo did it right. - Device can be completely controlled through the App, and each setting change is confirmed audibly through the head unit. - Device/camera App settings are easy to access, and all on one page. - Device audibly states "recording three channels," or however many you have. This way if one camera flakes out, you know it before you try to go recover data that's never been recorded. - Each camera can be rotated 180 degrees. My old Wolfbox wouldn't allow this. The newer ones do. In an ideal world, they'd allow to rotate every 90 degrees, but 180 intervals is definitely adequate and appreciated. - The remote cameras connect via USB-C, and are mounted in a snug, low profile clip that can spin the camera up/down 360 degrees, HOWEVER, they cannot rotate left/right at all, so cameras must be mounted in the center of your curved glass. The bad: - As mentioned above, none of the three cameras cannot rotate at all on the mounting base. You must mount the cameras in the center of your curved front and rear glass, if you intend to capture the whole view. I first had the rear cam mounted behind the driver, and I couldn't see anything behind the passenger side of the car through that rear camera. Since they don't rotate, the view you get is what you get, you cannot adjust it other than up/down. - The rear camera is NOT A BACKUP CAM. You have a screen on the unit, and you don't allow backup cam functionality? Crazy. That's honestly wild to me. I got spoiled with my weatherproof backup cameras on all my Wolfox/Rexing systems where the head unit straps onto the face of your stock mirror, and are reflective themselves, only acting as a screen when needed. As soon as I opened the box and noticed that this system didn't operate as a backup cam, I was bummed out, and decided to hide the head unit out of sight behind the car's rearview camera. Viofo seems to be a higher quality product than those other brands I mentioned, but... backup cam was my expectation. I even mix/matched cameras with those other brands, and it worked fine, so the analog cameras they're using seem to be pretty readily available, and robust. I'd love to see something like that (or a digital form) from Viofo. - Because the rear camera is inside your rear windshield, the glare is horrible, and your resolution quality really doesn't matter. Visibility is quite limited through the glass, especially on cars like mine with a heavy slope to the rear glass surface. If you have a truck, or something with vertical rear glass, you're probably fine, but that doesn't help those of us with this issue. - The interior cameras has IR LEDs to illuminate the interior in a way that only electronics can see. I have had many IR functional cameras, and I have to say, I think this combination of hardware and software in this camera results in the worst night time visibility I've ever seen. During the day, records beautifully, but once it relies on those IR LEDs, there's this horrible tunnel vision that only captures a small portion of the camera screen, and a small portion of the cabin. Software update could really do wonders here, but IDK if that's even possible. Maybe the LEDs weren't pointed in such a way to illuminate anything else, I don't know, but this, to me, is the biggest shortcoming in performance of this whole system. I bought this to protect myself in the event someone (anyone) were to approach my driver window, and now all I see in the image is that my bathroom scale isn't lying to me after all. - I love that the entire camera can be configured and operated via your phone. That's a key function that I honestly required after so much BS dragging on menu screens with lower quality units. So here's the issue... why is it a bit challenging to connect to my phone, to operate the camera? There's a dedicated Wifi button on the head unit, and you have to long press it to allow wifi to turn on. When I say long press, I mean, I've released it many times thinking something was wrong, because 4 or 5 seconds seems ridiculous. I try it again for longer, and then I get the audible "Wifi-Enabled." Why do I need to make love to this button while potentially driving a car, just to turn on the ability to access the camera? Remember, mind is out of my sight, so I need to duck down under my rearview and find the wifi button, then brail a prenup with it. It's not a mistake. There's a dedicated button. 2 Seconds is more than a long enough press to confirm someone really means it. I'll likely buy Viofo again, because again, I have had more considerable issues with other brands, but I do hope they take these notes into consideration. I just installed the system two days ago, and even with my concerns, I'm giving it four stars for now. It worked, the quality is there, the fit/form/function is very nice, and hopefully the hardwire kit results in my battery not getting drained. Can't say I've had luck in that department with those other brands. I even did an electrical draw study on one an older model Wolfbox and posted the results, but I didn't want to take the time with this one. Viofo seems like the brand to get to me.

Updated review: Viofo sent out a replacement rear camera and all is well now. Very happy with this setup. Best dash cam for the money period as of December ‘23! Original Review: I had been counting down the days until I could finally upgrade my Dash Cam to the new Sony Starvis 2 sensors in the A229 Plus (and A229 Pro) and after setting it all up, everything was perfect. Then, after driving around the first day and pulling the SD card to review my images, I noticed the rear camera looked nothing like the front (they both have the Starvis 2 Sensor, so I expected them to look almost identical) as it was dark, and simply not clear at all. Then, the next day, I noticed the rear camera was producing a Red and Green image, which I thought, ok, this most definitely is defective. I had been chatting with Viofo's customer service, and I sent them pictures of what I was experiencing, then on the 4th day, the unit would not respond to any action whatsoever. It was on, butno matter what I pressed, it did not respond. Viofo's reply to this was to unplug the unit (duh) and see if it comes back online. I did this, and low and behold it worked again. After mentioning this, Viofo closed the ticket and said "Looks like it's working just fine again. Reach out to us if you need anything else." After a few days of a Brand New Unit having several issues, you'd think that Viofo would want to swap it out for a replacement as it should not be having these issues so soon. With Amazon's return policy, I may just return the unit either for another A229 Plus, A229 Pro, or find another brand that has a 3 Channel Starvis 2 unit. I just hate having to pull my installation out and doing it again. I will update this review, as-needed.

So glad I read some reviews on “other dashcams” one review lead me to Viofo! I get 3-channels for $209 the “other” one was 2-channel for $289. This dashcam just about has it all. The quality is phenomenal. It’s small , sleek has a lot of features. I’m constantly giving seller hard time about cheap red sticky tape…… well this one is the opposite. It Sticks!!!!!!!!!! Make sure you look at everything and place it exactly where you want it to go! Overall god job viofo! Customer for life keep it up.

Easy to install. Simple to operate once you become familiar with it. High quality recordings to help protect you if you're in an accident or providing proof in a road rage incident. Hardest thing about it is routing the cables once installed, and that's not really that hard to do with most vehicles. Cons: Voice commands don't always work (non issue for me personally). 2k resolution loses detail at a distance somewhat quickly, but still ample quailty for what I use it for. If you need high quality resolution I'd suggest bumping up to the 4k model. You get what you pay for. That said, I'm happy with this specific model and price.

Easy to wire into a Car using the Viofo hardwire kit, Did have an issue with the battery draining too much but that seems to be my fault not setting the power supply up properly.

This dash camera set is all plastic but feels well made and well designed for daily use, with simple controls and a rotating rear. It has a wedge design, not too ugly but also acts as a deterrent. The rear and interior are standard sized 'barrel' design, it works as intended with buttons and ports for power and video. Each piece is plastic but they are well made with a good set of lens on all the cameras. The design style of this dashcam is definitely on the uglier side, but safety first, and is a good visible deterrant. The resolution at 1080p is clear and sharp for the interior IR, and most will be content with the footage in both sunny and dark conditions. The front and rear are 2K and is definitely 2K, with STarvis 2 sensor, but plates are mostly visible when nearby. From afar its still blurry but the cars on the road is easily identifiable by model. The mount is the weakest point of this camera, as it is not as firm and rigid as I would like. It works well enough, but is an eyesore on our van which has a very raked windshield. I tried putting it behind the rear view mirror but it wouldn't provide a good camera angle. I would recommend getting a fast 60 MB/s or faster Microsd card, so this is usually a SanDisk Ultra or Extreme. I tried using a cheaper Lexar basic MicroSD but the footage kept corrupting with a slow card error. I believe this is because the write speeds could not take writing the 2K sources Overall this is a good simple set for those who want a three channel dash cam and 4K and WIFI features, a rear camera and a back camera that points at the rear passengers. This is perfect for uber and delivery drivers.

Really great value dashcam. Easy to setup - I installed with the Viofo Hardwire Kit and hid the cables behind interior trim. Great reliability and quality improvement over the A129. The app is a little finicky to connect but works great once connected. The wifi connection is significantly faster and more reliable that the previous generation A129 camera. This one takes about 2 minutes to export a 3 minute 1440p video over wifi. I found that the Android app works better than the iOS app which was surprising. You can check the camera quality on YouTube reviews but it is good enough for my use.
