I have purchased four of these kettles over the past few years. The first two lasted the longest, in terms of length of time before the metal started rusting and became unbearable. This last kettle lasted all of two weeks before it started rusting. Unlike in the past, the rust was not slow to progress; there was so much rust and flaking inside the kettle (and coming through the spout) that I wondered if I received a defective kettle with internal damage. It is ridiculous (though apparently not impossible) for a kettle to corrode this much, this quickly.I loved the simple and thoughtful design, the all metal build (what metal, though? Can't be stainless steel), and the effective auto-off function, but the corrosion is a huge no. Thank God I caught this within the return window.

A long search for an electric kettle that is constructed to ensure that no plastic comes into contact with boiling water. LDPE and HDPE both leach all kinds of nastiness into water when exposed to boiling temps--and that can't be good. In any case, this product seems to meet the requirement, but 2 weeks in it's still putting off a burning plastic odor. Can't locate the source, but there is definitely something toxic afoot. Nice looking product, however. Maybe it's too much to ask, so I'll prob go back to boiling water in a stainless steel kettle on the stove top. Sigh.
