Dremel 9953 Flame Tip 3/8" Power Rotary Carving Bit - Ideal for Removal and Smoothing Applications in Wood, Plastic, Foam, and Rubber

This tool is incredibly productive for such a small size. It has the contour for a number of shaping - without too much chattering, slipping and very precise control. The only problem is that it melts plastic and clogs fully on too fast speeds.

Worked great! I used it to make engraved letters on my wooden sign. It did an excellent job. Sign is 2ft x 6 ft and letters are 8". After doing all the letters the bit is still sharp and useful for more !

The carving bit works very well on wood and fiberglass. I found it to be quite robust. I inadvertently struck a steel nail head and it only lightly blunted a few of the spikes. I was pleasantly surprised that thei bit did not incur more damage.

I used this bit carving and it performed well. However, it dulled extremely faster than any bit that I have ever owned.

This rotary bit does a good job of removing wood. I have mainly used the carving bit on black walnut wood, which falls in the middle of domestic woods based on hardness. The wood can be removed at a sufficient pace allowing good control of the tool. This carving bit will not leave a smooth finish, so a finer bit or sandpaper might be needed based on the user's preference. The teardrop shape is my favorite of all the bits available. It can leave a round shape, or get into tighter areas with a smaller footprint left in the carving material. The 1/8" shank fits well in both of my rotary tools (one corded and one cordless). This bit does a fine job, and seems to be able to stay strong for years.

I wanted to ‘carve’ a few wooden decorations and wanted something more aggressive than the steel bits that came with my Dremel. I’m just getting into carving with a rotary tool and wasn’t expecting much because my skill level is mediocre, but this little bit surprised me. It carved out softwoods with ease and didn’t grab the wood or dig in making me lose control like some other bits I’ve used. You can do some fine work with this bit and I find myself reaching for it as my main tool.
