Let it run in! Not hi-end hi-fi, but very good at the price
I bought this little box to interface between my TV and analogue hi-fi amp, but have also done A-B comparisons against my two hi-end Rotel CD players. I won't be listening to CDs through this DAC, as it doesn't have the requisite detail, viscerality or bass extension, but at the price it's a winner as an improvement over the DAC built into your TV or for making the best of your sonically-inferior MP3s, etc. Admitedly I haven't listened to the price competition...It's also totally spouse friendly! It sits unnoticed and invisible behind the TV; no extra remote controls or buttons to press! One caveat: It really needs to be run in for a few days!!! Don't send it back if you think it sounds muddy and dull straight out of the box, just leave it on for a few days and it'll sound like an entirely different device. This might have caused a few bad reviews here.I do agree that it's perhaps a tad quiet, though.

Giveaway price for a great DAC
I usually use a very upmarket Audio DAC but bought the Project DAC Box E as a stop gap while my usual component was being serviced and upgraded.I have used the Project in exactly the same way as my usual DAC and found it to be very capable and engaging. Obviously it pales somewhat in loftier company but for the money, it performs way above its price point

Good quality sound considering the low price
I use this box to connect the digital output from my TV to my old (non-digital) hifi system. It works really well with no latency problems. Sound quality is not up to CD standard but plenty good enough for my needs and at a very reasonable price.

Very well built. Better sound from TV.
I have connected the TV optical audio output to the DAC, and the DAC with an amplifier. TV is used to stream music. Very good built quality, sound is much better than TV's original. Box is small enough to not notice/disturb. Very good value for money.

Sound card on my 10 year old PC is better
Was expecting this stand-alone DAC to give an improvement in sound quality over the sound card on my PC - although not expecting a miraculous improvement I was nonetheless expecting an improvement. Sadly the Pro-ject failed to impress on any level .The output is quiet - really quiet, the bass lacks any real precision, the mid-range is flat and the treble lacks any vibrancy.I was using it to convert music audio files to a Yamaha amplifier and my review should be in this context. For TV it may perform with better effect and is certainly better than a £20.00 DAC.In short - if you are looking for a DAC to improve your music audio file conversion it will be worth spending more. If you have an optical out on your TV and an analogue only amplifier it may work for you as should give a better sound than TV speakers.

Does the job well
Great little unit with excellent sound quality, I use it to pipe the sound from the TV into my hifi, does the job well. Only downside is that it sometimes loses connection after not being used and needs a reboot.
