Exact replacement worked well. Rather expensive
A just fine replacement. It must be the value proposition that makes $3 of electronic parts worth $50. But what choice do I have? This is probably why someone else threw the generator away rather than make this simple fix.

Works great!
Got a 5500 storm responder outputting power again!

This is a direct fit for 91828
Lost power during the windstorm on Monday, and my TroyBilt 5500 started on the second pull....but wouldn't produce any electricity. I stuck my multimeter in the socket and I was reading less than 3v.I opened the cover, and saw that there was a burned resistor on the brush holder/rectifier--I got lucky, but the total troubleshooting time was less than 7 minutes. It took longer to verify that this 91825GS was a suitable substitute for the 91828 that was on my generator. The part was ordered on Monday, arrived on Thursday. It took another 5 minutes to replace the part and button up the cover. Generator started on the first pull, and still no electricity. I opened it back up, checked my connections and they were good, so I plugged in my electric drill. One fast twist on the chuck, and it started producing electricity again. (Magnets must have lost their charge) I ran the generator for an hour with a load on it and it worked perfectly. I've started it up and tested it twice more, and it's kicking out 120v. Great to have that piece of mind again, and it was an easy fix. Thanks!

Very pleased with purchase!
I ordered this item yesterday after my generator, a Briggs and Stratton Storm Responder 5500 watt (model number 030430), stopped producing power. The recent storm in the northeast caused significant power outages in our town and our home was involved. Initially, I started the generator and after a few minutes I realized it was low on gasoline. So I shut the generator down, filled the gas tank and restarted the generator. It worked fine for the next few minutes and then my house went dark. It dawned on me that I had improperly fired up the generator. Normally I power down all the circuit breakers to the off position and then start the generator and then power up one breaker at a time and in so doing let the generator come up to speed. My error was I failed to power off all the breakers as I normally do. After filling the gas tank I started the generator and the full draw on the generator simultaneously hit and burned the brush holder assembly.Today, I replaced the failed brush assembly with the new assembly and there was still no power. After having read numerous reviews I realized that there was no residual magnetism in the new brush assembly and the fix for this was simple.I took my variable drill, plugged it into the 110 socket on the generator, started the generator, put the chuck in the clockwise direction, then pulled the trigger and manually ran the drill in the counter-clockwise direction several times. To my pleasant surprise the machine started to produce power.I read somewhere that brush holder assembly failure is responsible for 93% of a generators failure to produce power. 7% failure is due to fuse failure. These stats represent only Briggs and Stratton Storm Responder.I am extremely pleased that “the fix” was very simple and also that I saved a bundle of money repairing my generator.Amazon Prime thanks for the quick delivery of my brush assembly. Kudos to you.MJP

Exact fitment
Exact part fitment. So far works great.

Repaired
Old one looked bad, but new one still no power, tried a drill to remagnetize, no luck. Fixed it by taking a extension cord, cut female end, plug male end in generator, plugged in a grinder and left in on position. Started generator and used a 12v car battery, put neg and positive on battery terminals from extension cord, bam power. Hopefully this will help someone else.

Producing electricity again
My 15 year old craftsman 5600 watt generator ran out of gas overnight. I filled it up, started it, plugged something in and realized although the generator was running, it was not producing any electricity. After some YouTubeing, I figured out the likey problem, and sure enough, that little booger was burned out. Ordered the new part on Sunday and received it the next day. Quick, easy install of the made in USA, Briggs and Stratton product and after flashing the generator with a drill it was producing electricity again. If you don't know how to flash the generator, there are plenty of videos out there showing how to do it. I'd recommend the 2 drill method as it seems safer than turning the drill with your hand as it's plugged in.
