Hi, no, you take the cap off , use it, put the cap on when you are finished to store. I love them, since I bought the first set in 2019 I have re ordered a number of times, to me, the ink lasts and love the fact that there is a window where you can see how much ink you have left. Is it scratching on paper through writing or smooth ?
