An excellent product
I bought one of these about 20 years ago. It worked well until recently - when leaks began at the base of the spout and at the cold water tal. I was impressed by the product and decided to replace it with a recent similar model. The new one is now installed and looks well and works well. I believe that the actions in the taps have been improved! Very importantly the product was purchased at a very good price!!

Back to front
Very nice mixer tap but I wasn’t expecting a ceramic tap that turned on clockwise and off anticlockwise . To me this seems the wrong way around

nice tap, but you'll need some extras to get it working properly
As quite a few other reviewers have pointed out, this tap comes with reverse operating valves, which you turn clockwise to open and ant-clockwise to close. Bristan acknowledge this issue but won't do anything to fix it, stating that "there isn't a standard way of operating a tap". Well, technically true I guess - as far as I am aware there is no British Standard defining which way a tap should turn. But experience would tell you that taps turn anti-clockwise to open.(My guess is they have lots of spare reversed valve bodies they are trying to get rid of, but maybe I'm just cynical.)Anyway, you can buy the parts you need to correct the operation, and they are easy to install, but you need to factor in the cost and faff of this into your decision to buy this tap - it set us back around £40. To save you a half hour on the phone to Bristan customer support, the parts you need are as follows:valve body set - part # 2701225300handle set - part # HD038FBCPBA quick internet search will come up with quite a few spare parts suppliers that you can get these from. And yes, you do need the new handles - the threads are different....The truth is there are not many bridge taps with knobs rather than levers around, and this is still one of the better ones at this price point, despite this additional cost and hassle. So if this is the style you're after, I guess I'd probably still recommend it.

Nice piece of kit!
Beautiful tap - just needed to replace the upper part, got a man in and 15 minutes later job done!Does run on a little (only sometimes) but does not drip incessantly like the old one, so I’m satisfied.

Clown taps that turn the wrong way and cover you in scalding water
I have installed many many Bristan 1901 taps over the years and 3 Bridge Kitchen Sink Mixer Taps and on all the taps turn clockwise to close in the normal manner. However the one I just bought turns anticlockwise to close!!! There is no indication in the product description that the tap direction is wrong. Also the spout is directed to the front of the sink so when you close the hot tap in the normal way it turns full-on suddenly (only a 1/4 turn) and shoots scalding water at the front of the sink which splashes and covers you is scalding water. I have had to remove the tap now as my children have been hurt. This is a nightmare, it is like a clown tap designed by Bristan for their own amusement but has caused my family great distress.I have contacted Bristan support to resolve this issue without any satisfactory result, I haven't even been able to get a list of which of their 1901 products are also clown taps and which are normal. I shall not be buying any more Bristan products and recommend others to avoid them as well unless you want the taps to turn the wrong way.

The quality is good, as was the original
I bought this tap to replace my old Bristan 1901 mixer. The quality is good, as was the original, but the conventional tap system has been replaced with a quarter turn ceramic system, this is fine except that in order to turn on it needs to be turned clockwise rather than anticlockwise as with a conventional tap. I have contacted Bristan today and they tell me the only way to change this is to buy new valves and handles at a cost of over £40. There is no mention on their website or on Amazons details although I notice another purchaser has also been frustrated by what I think is a design error. Bristan eventually said they would reduce the price of the exchange parts but I think that this is an unsatisfactory response. If you want to use this conventional looking tap in the conventional way I suggest you avoid.

These taps turn on clockwise . Be aware.
Solidly made and good looking taps for my traditional period home. However I was surprised and concerned when I tried them the first time to discover they turn on and off on a quarter turn in the opposite way to any other taps I have owned. I saw nothing in the technical information online before purchasing to make me aware of this.

Plumbing in
Virtual direct replacement for 20 year old model. Thought I had ordered traditional taps but they are quarter turn ceramic. No matter but take a bit of getting used to. Connections to existing plumbing were difficult to undo and redo because of restricted access.
