So my 20 something kid has been nagging me to read some of their book choices and this is how I wound up traumatized and heartbroken. Before I move on, please note this is a LGBTQ book and if you're homophobic, don't bother reading my review(honestly, why would you?) What can I say about this duology, that professional reviewers haven't said, without spoilers? Obsession. The main character will do anything to achieve their goal. This is both inspiring and terrifying, as some of the choices made are way out of bounds of the main character's moral compass. The main character's path crosses with another character, who is also bound to their goal. Neither will stop willingly, even while people they care for become a casualty of their actions. This book was incredibly entertaining, even while puncturing my heart. Shelley Parker-Chan, I will follow your books to the end of the world and ack again!(Yes I'm aware she has better things to do the read my opinions on her book and I'm no psycho). To sum up my I'll written review, an amazingly fun LGBTQ book in historical settings, beautifully written, deep, unique characters/personalities. Ok, I got it! This is one of the most fun reads, that also might break your heart a little. But it's so worth the pain! I think that's all I'll say here on the subject. I am so sad that it's over. But I'll never regret the experience and hell, what am I thinking? I'll just do a re-read, starting tonight.
