Excellent for amphibian research
Light enough for packing, excellent for amphibian surveys on wet nights in temperate or tropical forests. All of the “new” rain gear has transitioned to short jackets that are not uselful for spending extended time in heavy downpours. I combine this with the OR wide brim rain hat (since I wear glasses) and can comfortably spend hours out in the rain. It is fairly warm, good most of the time but will make you sweaty if doing strenuous activity (though I’ve never found rain gear that won’t).

Started off waterproof, but then the rain soaked right through it after 5 months
I'm a dog walker. The raincoats I've had in the past were great at first but then started to leak at the seams. I've only had this coat for about a month, but it is great so far. I love, love the backpack so that I can carry it with me on my outings in the park if the forecast calls for rain without putting it on. The zipper works really smoothly, I think because it is metal, unlike most of the other jackets. To be honest, I started searching for a long rain coat after admiring one that another person got from LL Bean about 10 years ago. But they've changed their design and what they currently sell is inferior quality. This one from Outback Trading is exactly what I wanted.EDIT: I've just changed my rating from 5 stars to 2. Unfortunately this rain coat is the same as every other raincoat I've ever had: it loses it waterproofness. I've had this coat for about 5 months. Today was a steady rain. Not pouring cats and dogs, but a moderate rain. I was out walking with the dogs for 1.5 hours. Although the shoulders continued to be waterproof, the lower part did not. After about 30 minutes, I could feel the rain soaking into my pants under the coat at the thighs. When I got back to the car and took off the coat, there were some sections where the water was beading, but others where the water just soaked right in.I don't know why it's so hard for someone to make a raincoat that stays waterproof, but it seems to be impossible.

Let it rain!
I wore this yesterday when we had a big rain storm in NYC. What great protection from the elements! Between this raincoat and my rain boots, I was covered from head to toe. No need for an umbrella which would have been useless in the wind gusts. I’m 5’2” about 130 lbs and the XS fits well - you can adjust the waist and hood. The length provides coverage and you can walk easily. I do need to hike the bottom up when walking up the subway stairs just so I don’t drag but it’s not a big deal. It’s lightweight and layering underneath shouldn’t be a problem.

The pros far outweigh the one minor con
I love this coat. Currently it is the only lighter weight full length packable rain coat on the market. It does what it advertises and does it pretty well. It fits easily into my daily-use backpack and I have gotten several comments on how stylish it looks. The quality of the stitching, material and overall construction is in line with the price. I consider it a medium-high quality garment. It has kept me dry and comfortable through a couple of pretty heavy showers. The one issue is ventilation. Even minimal ventilation would be helpful for the days in late spring or early autumn when the temps are above 60 (northeastern US here). I would recommend this coat and I would buy it again.

NO HYPE: Excellent - EXCEPTIONAL - Quality & Design
Excellent - exceptional - quality & design! Well thought-out design: Velcro-ed pocket flaps (quality zippers); elastic waist adjuster (quality fittings); extra roomy hood with its own unique elastic adjusting system; a mysteriously purposed, inside upper-back area, zipped (1 sq ft) pocket/compartment with 2 inside straps; main zipper high quality & rugged; and, it is supple, "cloth"-like in how it lays on the body - not that stiff, yellow rain-jacket-shell feel. (Also has leg straps for horseback, but I won't need that.) So impressed with the overall quality that I felt duty-bound to share this with others because design & quality workmanship like this deserves to be promoted in our day of manufacturing shoddiness. I give my highest recommendation for this product and I'm just a regular customer with no connection to this company; but, Outback Trading has earned my highest regards and I will seek them out first for future such products if & when the need arrives. Great job, Outback!

Disappointed
My husband and I live on a farm, so I spend a lot of time outside in all kinds of weather. I was so excited to have a raincoat that reached below the tops of my boots, so my legs stayed dry. From the start the zipper was of poor quality, and was difficult to zip. Last night I rode in it for the first time. It was fine until I went to get off. I’m not sure what it got caught on, as I ride in an English saddle, but the bottom of the zipper pulled away from the coat. For the money, I thought it would be better quality.

I bought this to keep me dry in the rain or snow at the horse farm and at horse shows while I am walking horses to and from the barn to pastures or show rings. I wear a ball cap under the hood, it is great for keeping rain off my face and keeping the hood up in a breeze as well. I am 5'8" with long arms and legs and the sleeves and coat's length are long enough for full protection, overlapping the rubber boots taking care of lower legs and feet. It was great for hiking in the mountains in rain as well. It is roomy enough to wear a light jacket in the cold.
